Welcome to the forum!
To walk the dog, cast the bait out, reel up most of the slack, and give it a sharp jerk. This will cause it to turn either right or left. Give it a second jerk, and it will turn 180 degrees so it is pointing the other way. Jerk again, and it will turn back the way it was when you started. You get a rhythm going of jerking the bait and turning the reel handle at the same time to take up the slack to get a left-right-left-right motion from the bait. You reel in the slack when you move the rod tip forward to make the next jerk. Not difficult to do, but it does take a little practice to get the timing down.

It also takes patience to learn to slow the walk down, and pause.
The more you snap the line up on the "walk", the more side to side you'll get, with out reeling, you can keep the lure in the strike zone longer |

Not good at explaining it. I have my own unorthodox method that works. Still screw it up here and there, but the action is there. I walk and pause. I call it "Fat man, walking a dog". Take a few steps and take a break.

Yeah, it is a little bit hard to explain it. However, I think the most important part : always piont your rod toward your lure, do a little jerk WHILE REELING TO TAKE THE SLACK.
It is not as hard as most people think. After some practising, You can handle it for sure. If you never use or buy this kind lure before, I recommend Zara Spook. It is a very classic "walking' dog" action lure, and also very effective. Enjoy the "walking" |
