Default Chatterbait

I used this bait for the first time this weekend and did well with it. Caught 13 bass, all good size, a few rock bass and even 2 pike! The lure has great action but I had trouble with fish spitting the bait and missed a few on short strikes. Wondered if anyone had used the bait with a trailer hook.

Welcome to the forum!

Nope, haven't used a trailer hook, but check the main hook-right out of the package all of mine needed to have the hook sharpened. Once I did that I quit missing fish.

I think thats what I will do it seems the hooks dont come very sharp. Its a good thing they put the rubber hook guard on them!

Does anyone know if they come in a purple/white color? I have a char/white but I always do good on purple.

You can put your own skirt on it-just pull the one that came on it off and put the one you want on it.

I was missing fish also. I put on a trailer hook and did ok, then tied on a red stinger and did even better. I think the problem in my case were the bass in the pond I was fishing were small and were just missing the hook. Today I was fishing with the chatterbait most of the day in a lake that has bigger bass. I didnt miss any fish and had no trailer or stinger on the bait. I ended up catching 11 with it. The trailer and stinger hooks did not seem to mess the action of the bait down at all...

Ive been using my version of them , the "Water Rocker" and been doing awesome.. finding best success on clear/blue skirt (although the water is gin clear, so that makes sense). Just got in my 1/2 ounce heads. quicker fall rate... love these things.

Is it just me, or does the chatterbait have an action and look in the water that is very similar to the old johnson spoons? Maybe a good bit more vibration, but it has a similar wiggle.

Well I bought Gamblers knock off version.Found it for $3.99.I caught 2 bass right off the bat, then a third one hit and I had it momentarily , it came unbuttoned on the way to the boat.It also tore the trailer tail off in the process and I couldn't get one to bite it without the trailer tail on it.The thing is the jig head was positioned upside down when you tie the line on to the duo snap.Is it supposed to be like that, or did the low rate laborers put it together wrong ? Where do I find more trailer tails for it. I tried a spinnerbait trailer, but it didn't fish the same ?As soon as I get my camera developed, I will post the chatterbait knockoff fish. P N J

Yea when people start figuring out how to build them themselves they will drop to the price of a regular jig. Walmart and the nation of Costa Rica are probably already conspiring, too.

I noticed the Chatterbait has arrived at my local Gander Mountain store. Can't tell much difference in action compared to the Gambler brand.

The gander by me has a few different knock-offs. They had one that was a lot bigger. I think it was called Uncle daves venom or something silly like that. It looked pretty cool even though it had a $7.99 price tag.

The Chatterbaits were $7.99 also. I bought the Gamblers from BPS on sale not too long ago.
