Default Chatter Baits?

I was curious to know what people think of Chatter Baits? Do you use them? What brand? Colors??

I have seen them used in a tourney last year and the angler brought in about 25-30 fish with that one lure. He pulled in his limit and actually was throwing fish back pretty much the rest of the day... as I sat in awe...

I have not used them myself, but the person i fish with loves them. HE catches a lot of fish with them...he uses the baits with the yellow, red, orange, a green skirt mixed. But the color might need to be different for your lakes.

i have used them and i like them. like anything else it has it's time when it's at it's best, but it will catch fish for sure. my favorite way to use it around here is to fish it around boat docks.

I throw them into the edges of the tullies and play around with retrieval. I might make it jump a little like a jig and then reel it like a spinner bait. The skirts have a short life span, but I really like the bait.
White and Yellow are the only ones I use.

I threw a Kaotic brand Shaker with a Knucklehead Shad Skirt last year and had a blast using it. Caught plenty of bass with it and finally lost it the last tournament of the year. Going to pick up a couple more in a few weeks.

I really like the chatterbait right after iceout. I prefer the heavier model with white and a chartreuse twin tail trailor. I also do well with the dark black/blue model with a black twin tail trailor. And I've tried many knockoffs, but still prefer the original over all the copies.

I've still got a few that I purchased two years ago that I haven't even used yet. Just too many other baits and presentations and too little time to try everything that comes out.

I have used them a few times without much luck. I just cant figure out what the right conditions are for this bait to be at its best down here in the south.

Thanks 3d. So maybe this would be a good bait to use when theres a good spinnerbait bite? Am I close on this one?

I don't have much experience in them, but the ones I have used, I like this one the absolute best!

The blades are better, the hooks are better, the connection between the jig heads and the blade is better, etc...... I have a few chudderbaits and haven't used them once since trying the vibrashocks.

my problem with the Chatter baits was fish not staying hooked and short strikes. I purchased some Vibrashocks. The quality and workmanship is unmatched and I have caught lots of fish with the vibrashock. My suggestion to you is to order two or three of them in your favorite colors and give them a shot.

For a shad imitator I like Blue shimmer, Black Cherry, Extreme Bluegill, Blue shimmer cottoncandy, and Fogy green.

Hope this helps

It would be similar. There is a difference in the retreive with the chatterbait having that wiggle that you don't get with the spinnerbait. It gives the bait a pulse and with the Shad Skirt you get a better shad imitation than what you get with the spinnerbait (my opinion). I did a little better in the fall with the spinnerbait than with the Shaker.

Buzzbait is a surface bait. Chatterbait runs under the surface and can be crawled, hopped, yo-yo'd, slow rolled, or waked. Similar retrieves compared to spinnerbait.

I experimented last fall with the fluke on a chatterbait as Fish2win has suggested many times. I gave it action and darted it about but the chatterbait bite wasnt on last fall like it was the year before, at least for me.

Changing up the skirts and the trailers makes for some good action.. I still think that long split tail trailer on the chatterbait is the way to go.

Haven't done the fluke yet or added the trailer but always have that option and one day I'll test it out.
Zman has a whole line of baits out now with the blade in front. They've got the fluke or similar bait with a jig head and blade.

I have added the fluke before and found the best time to be about two months after the spawn when the fry are moving out and about. I go to the smallest flukes or bass assasins on a mini chatter bait. It gives it a slightly bigger profile bait with a very eratic action.

I will say that there is not a bait out there that won't catch a fish, but I do have confidence in them and can duplicate the results repeatedly
