Default Finicky bass, in a creek, help!

So, I've fished in this creek, I don't know, 2 years straight. I have used all kinds of lures, flukes, plastic worms, spinnerbaits, even poppers. Except for the 2" grub, which I hooked two fish with, NOTHING works! And even the grubs doesn't work anymore! Just that one fishing trip! It is around 12' deep at it's deepest point, and is filled with 10-12 inch bass, and they're have even been a 17" bass in they're but some bone head I know caught it and then took it home . But back to the fishing, I can see a few bass here and they're swimming every now and then, but they bite NO lures consistently. Anyone got any recommendations. Maybe some of those Rage Tail Shads? Or would that be a little too big for the area? The grub I used was a crayfish pattern so I am thinking they're feeding on crayfish. The creek is very clear by the way, it's water clarity is around 6'. They're are a few fallen trees in the water too.

If you need any more info about it just let me know.

So, what lure do you think I could catch these lock-jaw bass with?

first I would switch to as light a line as you can , think 6 ta 8lb fluorocarbon , and downsize your baits .

Don't have any flourocarbon left, have to get some more. Or I could just use my Senko rod. I am using 8 lb. mono on the rod I'm using right now. And I will keep down-sizing my baits as small as I can.

How big is this creek? Have you thought about fly-fishing it? Some wet flies can be tossed on a spinning rod with light enough line.

P.S. Give your friend who took the 17-incher a good beatin.

I used a tube in that kinda situation the other day, with small fish that are hard to catch. I use a Dry Creek Outfitters tubes,I would use a 3 1/2in tube i was there, like green pumkin, or Bama Craw if the water is dirty.either texas rig it with a small bullet weight or use like 1/4oz jig head,on 10lb flouro

I'd second the motion for a tube bait t rigged. I don't know how much current you have to deal with, but go with as light a weight as you can get away with pegged to the hook. I'd try casting upstream and letting the current carry the tube down to some brush. With the right size weight you should be able to give the tube a natural appearence this way.

Alright. If I were you I would try 3" senko baits wacky or Texas rigged weightless. Powernymphs should work good too. Also if these bass are as finicky as you said why not give live bait a shot. Try minnows under a bobber or nightcrawlers and crawfish on the bottom. Also try some tubes. Had great success in a smallmouth creek the other day with a rebel crawfish. Try all those crawfish colored cranks like bombers and stuff. Good luck.

i second the rooster tail, and beetle spin...well,downsizing all together.
i have a few minnow spinners like these, that can be deadly.

also, alot of times when im fishing creeks...i notice alot of bugs, dragonflys, etc hitting the water....if the bass are hitting them above the surface....then i almost always tie on a buzzbait and ripped that across the water.

Try flipping over some rocks and see what is underneath of them and try to match what ever is under them or try a lure that looks like a grasshopper.

I would definitely try a drop shot since you said the bass are finicky. Leave 6 inches of line between the hook and weight since you said it is only 12 inches deep.

He actually said 12 feet, not 12 inches.

Id throw small football jigs with a small craw trailer. Since its a creek id say there would be alot of rocks , and that football should work well in that situation. Check out this link...

I tried a rooster tail. Nothin'. Even the bluegills wouldn't touch it. I think they've seen one too many of these things .... I'm going to try and find some 3" stik-o's or dingers off of basspro.com in a few days and order them. Thanks for the tips, Spro.

I DID have a ultra light spinning combo 'till I picked it up mid-way up the rod and snapped it like a twig. I gave the reel to my dad and trashed the rod. It was a good combo. I will buy one back. In the fall the bass are hitting cicada's a lot. The guy that caught that 17-incher, caught it with a cicada, which he found on the ground. He fished it weight-less on top of the water and twitched a time or two and that bass nailed it. I'll look into the wet flies once I get another ultra light spinning combo.

I've tried minnow spinners. I tried a small one also. It was just around 1/16 oz., Rainbow trout in color, and had a gold blade. Didn't get the slightest of nibble. I'm telling you these fish have wised up to any kind of lure with a spinner on it. I like the buzz-bait idea. Once fall comes the fish are going to be nailing cicada's and maybe a 1/8 OZ brown buzz-bait will do wonders! Thanks!

I'm feeling a brown or PB & J colored 1/8 OZ jig with a 2" grub trailer! Thanks a lot! This and the buzz-bait idea has impressed me the most ....

Drop shot would be a possibility ... Though I tried a jig-worm and have had no luck. This idea is going down as a maybe.

An insect looking lure may be the key ....

A small tube could also work. I have a few smallie tubes in my T-Box that I might just try out ... There is no current. AT ALL.

Good idea but I have tried both 1/4 OZ and 1/32 OZ beetle spins and haven't gotten even the smallest of a nibble ....

My bad, I thought it was 12'', but since its 12' I would go with atleast a foot between hook and weight on the DS rig.
