There's a pond by my house like that. It actually looks like tree leaves on top of the water. Almost everything snags up. The one thing that I do ok with is a Spro Bronze eye. It kinda rides right over the top of the leaves most of the time.

Have you tried a black Johnson spoon tipped with a black pork strip? I have had success with that in weeds like you describe, just working it slowly through the weeds, but not too slowly. Also, a heavy jig&pig rig can sometimes poke down through the weeds and you can work it below the mat of weeds on the surface.

What he said or get a heavier jig, and punch through it

actually it get's their attention.you want a quit entry when fishing wood and docks etc.in a weed matt the bass need to be able to locte the bait so punching it through helps.we matt crashh sometimes up here in ny.you flip the 1 oz. jig up in the air and snap it back down through the matt so it penetrates.you'd be surprised how well it works on hot summer days.

As Powerbass stated try a frog. I use "Spro" (Dean Rojas)Frogs, they seem to work better than the scum frog.

Or you can save a bunch of money, and buy a bps brand toad/mouse kit for 13$.
