Default bedding bass

I fished a golf course w/ my friend today. We saw a bed...one of the very few...in pretty clear water. We first saw a little bass...around a foot.....hanging around it then all of a sudden this bass about 5 lbs...no lie...swims up to it and like stares @ us. lol. this sounds so stupid. But we couldn't get either one of them to bite @ all! Then later anouther bass a little bigger shows up. So now there's 2 bass over 5 lbs on one little tiny bed that doesn't even fit the both of them. (i wonder how they sleep :P) I used a paddletail bait, crawfish and a worm and they didn't bite anything. It was in Central Florida...and a cloudy day. Just so you can picture it. Please give me some advice so i can land those fish and put the picture as my little member picture thing. Thanks for your help

well, u could. or u could just cast alittle away from it and twitch it onto the bed and let it sit there, then twitch. u might also want to put more scent on it, cause it might give u another 1 hundredths of a second to set the hook. it makes all the difference.

Another thing you might want to do is stand a little ways down the bank away from the bed. I have always heard that bass will see you standing there and that will cause them not to bite anything.

I spent a week fishing with Boby Garland on Bull Schoalls back in 97. Â*He was demonstrating bed fishing technique with a tube jig. Â*We spent an hour and a half on the same fish...she was really locked down on her bed and wasn't going to move for any reason untill she actually felt threatened. Â*One thing I've learned in clear water situations, if the bass can see the bait too well they won't bite. Â*I told Bobby about this biologist that had done a bunch of experimentation with bass...not the guy for Berkley. Anyway, long story short use a bait that is harder for the bass to see...i.e. in clear green water. use a green translucent tube and go to a smaller size. Â*Bobby did just that and as soon as the bait settled into the bass's bed and went motionless that bass was all over it. She didn't feel threatened but rather that tube represented a threat to her eggs. She didn't nose it out or just move it. She attacked for a kill.

Hey basstech,

Did you happen to notice when you let her go if she went right back to her bed, or did she swim off intot the deep? This is something I have always wondered. ???

bassbooger got it. They see you as a predator. The last thing they wanted at the moment was something to eat.

They probably wanted to guard their bed.

lol. 4 iron. I'm thinking that wouldn't work though. But the water is sorta stained brown. But really clear where the bed is. And it's right by this wierd grass about 1 1/2 ' in diameter right along the shoreline.

It backed off the bed a couple of feet just barely visible in a little deeper water but stayed close enough to run off any egg eaters.

there were 2 fair articles on bedding bass in bassmaster.dean rojas is a weenie,he wouldn't tell all.(yeah, like everybody is gonna follow him).
the other article..i forgot,i don't think it was much of a help.
anybody else notice how really vague a lot of the articles are in bassmaster?..like deany there,,says he has tricks but won't tell them,,what crap!a lot of other guys are already fishing his style..there is no original style anymore save for the select few..and if you notice, they're the good guys,like...i dunno....WOO!..KVD, FRITTS.
IKE came up through the federation ranks so he won't tell you sh**.
damn..turned into a rant..you can have the soapbox back now..
