raising worms?

hey guys. Alright, well it rained like mad today, and my driveway was littered with worms. Being the fisherman that I am, I though... Worms... fish... bait... bream. So, i went and collected about 100 worms. However, I'd like to raise them so there are tons by spring/ summer. I could use some for bream and sell the rest off at the pond to nglers (provided the rangers let me, I will have to ask If i can set up a stand or something). From research online, so far I have thought of making a wooden box with holes at the bottom. Then there is an inch thick layer of rock to drain, followed by scraps from the kitchen. Then, 3 inches of soil, with some kitchen scrap mixed in. on top a layer of cheerios and then a thin layer of soil mixed with corn flour. comments?

I think most folks just set up some sort of compost pile in the yard, then dig them out of there before they go. Know one guy that had an old bathtub in the yard and filled it with stuff.

I think BPS also sells a kit to do the same thing

compost pile seems to be the most logical thing, was just wodnering if there was anythign I could do so that it would be easy to find the wormss instead of digging around for them. Will try a few methods, I will let you know how they all work out.

Build a tray with dividers. Make each slot about 3 inches deep by however long by an inch wide. Bps sells food, bedding, and some stuff that turns 'em green.

whatever you do...i highly reccomend hooking up a blacklight and sofly playing some kenny G. this will set the mood for some after hour activities and then you can get babies too!

There are boxes sold for raising worms you can buy that are fairly inexpensive. Probably cost no more than what it would cost to buy the materials to make your own. My grand daddy used to raise worms and he swear by adding used coffee grounds to the bedding for food. I raised them when I was a kid and had good luck with the commercial bedding and also spagnum moss kept damp but not wet.

the hillbillies up here use worm bedding and shreaded newpaper, but when you raise worms, and a few dies, the odor is unbelievably bad. An idea is to pimp some of the bullies at your school and fill their locker with dead erms...(you know the type of pre med bullies- that can outspell
Scoleciphobia- Fear of worms) before you can look it up rofl

Haha JB. Yeah, well I stuck mine in a cardboard box with soil and a few kitchen scraps with shredded newspaper to keep em in while i figure out something better. a few dies, and wow the stench is insane! The funny thing is everyone leaves their lockers open... Me being a kid with dead worms, access to lockers, a joker, some fishing scents, and April fools? hmmmm... jk, haha.
I'll probably just end up buying a set. And adding coffee grounds, thanks for the tip.

You can always raise worms in shreaded worm bedding and sell to local tackleshops that carry live bait, in the late summer worms are hard to find.

Yeah, see I was looking to sell somewhere as I don't really use much livebait. I was thinking on the side of the pond, if the rangers let me but your idea would be better. If I start off now, I'll have quite a few for summer

Nope, don. They put it next to the barn, and put coffee grounds and oatmel in the dirt every morning. Acccording to him, worked like a chram.

get a wooden box filled with soil, then throw some shredded newspaper, add some of your favorite dog or cat crap and your good to go!
