If they didn't enter 2 years ago they prob still won't. Besides even though I feel comfortable operating under the confines of the "honor" system.....the world is crawling with dishonorable types

HAHAHA Had the paneling AND the Papason chair, lol. In fact, my son has a Papason chair in his bedroom. haha
I might be in for the contest. Could be fun. Just how to keep it on the "up and up" is the question. Plus I would say it should be broken into regions. Hard for a guy in Minnesota to compete with someone fishing in the deep south where bass grow triple the normal size of a northern bass.

The way it was set up before, was closest percentage to your state's record

I think people don't enter cause its so hard to compare fish from state to state or fishery to fishery. I would be willing to enter (donate, haha) depending on the amount of skin in the game.

Thats a pretty good way of doing it. It would be fair to everyone involved. Maybe a photo of the fish being weighed with a digital reading scale including length and girth would be a good idea.

I'd do it! This time I saw we keep things simple, biggest bass from where ever wins bragging rights!

I was a part of a contest like this on another forum and it was pretty fun. It was just for bragging rights so there wasn't really any concern about anyone being less than honest. It was whoever had a fish that was closest to their state record, any species of bass. It is a little tougher for guys from some regions than it is others. Guys from Florida have the 22lb 4oz fish to try for while guys by the pig smallie factory that is Lake Erie were entering 6 and 7 pound fish that were way closer to a state record sized fish than the couple of 10lb largemouth that were entered from the southern states. It's still a good time though and opens the door for a lot of good natured ribbing.

I think it's GA where the 22.4 was caught and FL is "only" 17.4. I also have the added "fun" of having to wait until Memorial Day weekend for season to open here, but I'm in for a bragging rights contest if someone can come up with an official set of rules.

I'd be in for something like this. I think keeping it as a % of the state record would be fair. Are we thinking a yearly thing, since us northern boys still have 10-12 weeks (or longer) of winter left?

Bragging rights, but it would have to be all year. I know y'all have ice right now, but for over 2 month in the summer our water boils and to catch anything over 8 during that time is like the lottery. I think truly the north has an advantage, unless I catch a 10 in a local pond I'm still nowhere near my state record (16 or 17, don't remember at the second). While I would think a 6 or 7lb smallie is near the record. Correct me if I'm wrong, still sounds like some good ol fashion trash talking

It needs to be something very simple or non-compliance will be high. Maybe a quick photo of fish on measuring board or tape. If I have to go through lots of gyrations I'll probably just drop her and keep fishing. But it does sound like fun. I've got a pretty accurate chart that shows probable weight in relation to length. Maybe start a thread on the bragging board that's devoted just to this deal and just see where it takes us.....weekly...monthly...yearly winners. I think some kind of low key reward would keep it interesting.....for example I pour a pretty mean finesse and trick worm(ask bluebasser he won my last comp bag)...I don't mind putting up a complimentary big bag to the monthly longest bass...I know there's guys on here that make jigs and other stuff that might want to comp some small stuff....just food for thought?

Sounds like this thing just may take off this year. Is everyone good with throwing in a lure or bag of plastics to send to the winner?

Should we make this run from Feburary 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012? Also, a % of the state record (LM or SM bass)??

I think we should just do a pic of the fish on a digital scale. I know that all the scales are not the most accurate. But I know it is better for the fish to not be measuring length, girth, and trying to have the fish not flopping around on the boat carpet (or grass)... especially if you are alone or in a small boat.

And are we thinking a 100 post count minimum for this contest to? Let's hear some ideas guys.

Ryan

I keep searchin around for the right scale to replace my last one, now I can't wait for the perfect one, haha. All seems good, but I think it should this last week and a half of January should count for the year bragging right, just not a monthly bragging right... just in case

All seems good though.

Our records are:
LM 11# 15 oz
SM 9# 4 oz

I'm down with small prizes for the winners.
When we attempted to do this 2 seasons ago, everybody who entered had to send 5 bucks worth of baits to the winner.

I think it should be scale weight, myself.

Sounds like it's starting to gain a little steam.
If we're gonna do this, let's go 5 bucks per species.
I'd put in for LM and SM

Sounds good to me. I am all for doing a digital scale weight as well. I'd be in for LM and SM. $5 per species sounds good to me. Who else is game for this? If it sounds like we have enough interest, we should get another thread going, for the participants.
