Default balsa wood carvnig

hey guys... today in art, i forgot to tell you, my teacher showed us some balsa wood to use for our popart. the stuff is so soft and light! then i realized that this stuff was good to carve. i have two 7 by 7 inch peices about a centimeter thick each. any ideas on making something? perhaps cut the peices smaller, and use about 8 peices to make a lipless crank? id hollow out a few layers and stick splitshots in em. any other ideaS?

I like to build remote control gliders/sailplanes now and then. I have some experience with balsa wood, it's easy to work with and I enjoy it, but the job your talking about would be time consuming and fairly difficult. Maybe fun though to try it, let us know if you do and take digi pics to share with all. OH ....and balsa wood is like a sponge, take care about what type of glues you use and the paints/liquids you put on it. Good Luck

ok, well the point was for it to be time consuming, if youve ever noticed how much time i spend on this site waiting for new replies. so thats a plus. and my art teacher has some wierd glueish stuff thats a water sealent that glosses and dries clear. ill get the name later, its in my homework pad. paints, im thinking the vinyl paint she has. she has 3 different kinds. one is the regular crayola paletts, the others are acrylic and vinyl. i dont have a digital camera, but ill scan it

While everyone is on this subject. What do you prefer better for hangning hooks. The hangers or screw eyes with split rings??

Chris

Working on a new lure and don't know which one to use.

Since the wood is only a centimeter thick, your popper could take on the look of a Storm Chug Bug. They're not tall, but they are wide, and they work!

Nah i use better, Screw eyes and epoxy on the screw. Let that stuff set for about 24 hours. Broke the hook instead of pulling out on my last lure when it got caught in some rip rap.

Cranky,

Make a popper or a propeller bait first. You can also use water based acrylic paints that you can get a walmart for about $0.69.

A walking type bait will need to be weighted just right to get the proper action. Poppers and prop baits are also cigar shaped but weight is less an issue in balancing the lure. Even if you're off a bit, the hooks will usually be sufficient to get the bait to sit correctly. Good luck

Lizards I picked up one of those baits at boaters world about a month and a half ago and still haven't got to use it yet. What type of condtions for it? and how deep do those dive?
