Unspooling your line with a cast

There was an article in bassmaster a year a two a go about casting distance. Two different pros said they can almost unspool all of their line with a single cast. I know with the right set up, lure and weather condition you could make a 50 to 60 yard cast, not 100 or 120 yards, I find that very hard to believe! My longest cast is probably 45 yards, 50 and 60 is a heck of a cast. I think some people don't relize how far 60 yards is sometimes. Good fishin'

Just saw Larry Dahlburg (sp) spool the new Curado. Funny thing was he didn't have the line tied to the spool. Missed the beginning of the show so was not really sure what kind of line or how much was on the spool.

Some tricked out reels have aftermarket spools which are designed for lighter weight. These normally have much smaller line capacities.

I have done it with a few different reels.The Daiwa TDX 105 HI and a Pinnacle tetra HS consistantly could be casted to the end of the spool with ease using 14-17 lb test mono.The spools have a small line capacity.

I had an Ardent XS 1000 reel that would outcast any reel that I have seen so far. I messed up when I sold that one. P N J

Simple...fill yer Chronarch50MG with #25 mono, tie on a 1.5 oz. jigging spoon and let 'er rip. Hold on to rod as spool becomes visible!

i have several times with differant reels ardent being one of them..

i have seen fritts throw a crank 150 yards. he cast like crackin a whip..no joke..

yeah Alton Jones said that last year at the Classic he was throwing his jig 80-90 yards and could land it in a 3 yard radius of his target. Im sorry, but i think he just said that because ardent wanted him too. when i see it, ill believe it.

Maybe the were referring to, casting your--what ever and than walking back wares for 70 yards!

A heavy weight spool will outcast a lighter weight spool.

I've super tuned all of my reels. BIG differences in casting!

zooker I have 2 of Fritts reels and they're tall and heavy spools. Make sense to me.

and he throws a dt10. ever chunk one?? i have.. 75-80 yards on a normal over hand cast is fairly simple.. they way fritts chunks them is awesome to see..i have tried his style of cast and yes it does get you farther out there.. how ever i would not try it with a partner in the boat or a short decked boat..he cast with about 20 feet of line out.. it sounds like a gun going off...

yeah i was fishing today with a rapala DT 14 and i could throw in with the soft wind 40 maybe 50 yards.... just have to see it to believe it.

I'm surprised and shocked that anyone can cast over a 100 yards. I consider 50 yards a monster cast. Then again, I'm not trying to set a worlds record.

Any one who hunts on here really understands how far 100 or 150 yards is. 150 yards is a long ways to throw a lure... I would have to see it to believe it!!!

Your not listening very well.

With the diameter of line and a smaller spool capacity, your not having but 70-80 yards of line on the reel.That is not 150 yards.The long distance casting competition reach better than 300 feet though. P N J

fishin fool, my best casting distance to date was well over 150 yards...only when my line snap in mid air...does that count and still couldn't find the lure

By that criteria I have a couple in the 250-300 yard category. That snap kind of spoils things, though.

The first time I ever had my line snap casting a crankbait I was in utter awe at how far and fast that thing flew.

I casted a popper around 380 yards as well, if the snap counts and the current counts taking it the other 300 yards down the river.....ok just go out to your local football field and cast, you will realize exactly how far 100 yards is

595 FEET is the currant world record cast..

dd22 and a quantum energy pt with 20 lb power pro at Joe Pool Lake during a tournament I showed my partner how to cast. He told me to cast it far as I could. Threw it and only had little over a full wrap left on reel, asked him if that far enough.

He said I didnt throw it so I reeled in and thru again. needless to say I am his full time partner now!! lol

I haven't measured my casts, but I can guarantee you that they are almost always 3 foot farther than I wanted to them to be when casting towards the shore or tullies.
