Default Do you sit or stand when fishing

Hey Fellas; 2 questions
Do you sit or stand while fishing?

Do you like sitting way up on a deck or lower mounted seats?

I sit most of the day and like to be low in the boat.

Oh god...the way this thread title displayed on the front page was humorous.

I prefer to sit, due to that nagging back injury, but it depends on what way I'm fishing. I don't think sitting works too well when you're pitching, or using jerkbaits. If I'm chucking crankbaits or search fishing, I will put the smaller seat up front, just as something to lean against to ease the strain on my disc. Then again, if I'm in rough water, and it's windy, I will almost always use a full seat up front.

One thing I've noticed though..due to my mutant height, my seat post is a bit too far forward for me to comfortably work the trolling motor from the full seat while facing to the side. Maybe they should have made the Avalanche in a 20 foot model. It's not too bad though...it works better than sitting on the bank.

Stand -- 100% of the time. I'm almost always on the front deck of the boat and have tried to sit and fish, but I just don't feel comfortable doing it that way vs. standing.

Stand. I always have the pedstal seat in to give me something to lean against or balance myself if the water gets rough. That little seat has kept me from going in the water on more than one occasion. If I am taking someone, I will give them the option of regular seat or no seat in the back.

I think of one person and one person only when I hear the words sitting and fishing in the same sentence:

I haven't had a boat to fish out of before, but when I start using my new one in the spring I'm sure I'll be a standing fisherman. Although, if Bill Dance could guarantee me the size fish he catches while he is sitting, I'll change my mind

I go back and forth because I have had several knee surgery and a broken back so I can't stand or sit to long. So I'm up and down.

Stand on the front deck with the butt seat.

Had a bad back for almost 20 years now (I'm only 34) and years of sports has taken it's toll. I have a hard time standing without support for long periods.

Good (bad?) to hear I'm not the only one with a bad back. Even sitting down for just a little while now and then can really help.

I've had two knee replacements and stand - actually lean on a butt seat - when casting moving baits or pitchin' plastics or jigs. When I slow down and soak a worm or finesse fishing I'll sit down and take a break.

I stand most of the time. Although it's hard to do in the front of my 14ft vee. When I'm at the lake where my cabin is I'll sit when I flip and frog fish the lily pads. Also have a bad back, so sitting helps.

I stand all the time, with one exception.... fishing BIG WAVES ON ERIE, anything over 5-7 footers, and I am sitting down....

On a boat,I prefer standing,I feel that it keeps me more focused on my retrieves and presentation...I do take breaks and sit though every 2 or so hours...Plus while standing I can make longer cast and I dance better when I catch a fish.

Presentation dictates it for me. I often sit when working something slow like a shakey head or drop shot.
For all other presentations, I will stand.

Defintley stand. Only reason seats go in the boat is something to hold the net. I have been known to lean a little when it's about 100 degrees outside, but that doesn't count as sitting does it?

I stand as much as I can. Like Nofear and a couple other guys said, this lower back start to ache after standing too long in the boat. So if I'm fishing in shallower water where I want to have good visuals, I'll stand almost 100% of the time. When I get out to deeper water using cranks, I'll give the back a rest and sit down.

I prefer to stand and fish from a bigger boat. I feel like I am more dialed in. If I am by myself in my 12er, I stand, but no way if some is in there with me. My back tends to hurt more when I sit down for too long.

I mostly, like 90% of the time I sit, I have had bariatric bypass surgery, a broken leg, collar bone and survived a gun shot, so I am pretty banged up from life, It hurts too much for me to stand up in one place.I have a small Aluminum vee, and it has 2 swivel seats and i can sit in it for 12 hours straight and go home achy but not burning in pain

Stand almost all the time. Like rrw I keep the pedestal seat in only on the big water. I should start using it a lot more since my back hurts after fishing all day.

Anybody ever kneel on their deck? I use to when casting between bullrushes, I found if I got low and casted sideways I could get in between the rushes better and bring the lure through.

As for the original question, its about 50/50 standing/sitting with me, with that rare kneeling exception that doesn't have a percentage point on its own...
