I would look into the cheaper ones if you bank fish. If you are fishing from a boat and you can afford to by a Lucky craft and see how it is. Also the Lucky craft cranks around me are sorta bigger than the forage for the most part so I really don't like them except the jerkbaits. Bagleys are good, get a balsa B. I mainly fish Strike kings crankbaits and the Bull Bream color, the chartreuse and brown back, the white with a yellow back, and the white with black top are my favorites. Do not have one on me now because I tend to loose them when fishing cause I go from the bank and I am pretty bold with what I throw them to, but hey I catch some really good ones like the 4 in the tourney.

Ive been lucky to pick up qiuite a few of the older model Bagley crankbaits. Last spring i came across a box loaded full of the older square lipped Rapala Fat Raps. Whoever the previous owner was he was definitely a Rapala man.
The first thing i did was make up some plug knockers and put them in several different places so i would never be without one. If you are going to use cranks you definitley need to have a plug knocker.....the older ones are too hard to come by to be loosing them in the wood and brush.

Just about all the square lipped crankbaits I own are Strike King. I fish the series 1XS, 1, and 4S.

Denny, Norman Thin N and Mad N's have a coffin style bill. The bomber baby -4 have a square bill but I can't get them to catch fish for me.I think they are too wide or something, I had the sniffer fish follow them but wouldn't hit them even when you killed the bait retrieve so the chasing fish practically ran into the crankbait.I haven't fished the mad N 's yet but the thin N was an awesome bait for me last summer.P N J

Spent 7 hours on the water today fishing a lot of blowdowns and didn't even THINK about throwing a square bill. Water temp ranged fron 51 to 54 and I got one on a baby bass/pearl swirl Tiki Stick.

reb,
I am kinda the same way, you forget you have them in the box, and also
tend to forget the benefit of using them coasting down the bank , when the opportunity arises. I tend just to chuck out the crankbait I had tied on for that days color or depth.
Next time I'll go for a coffin bill crank
heres an example of some http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...rTarget=browse

Me too, JB. I get out on the water and don't really think. Guess that is why a have a heading titled "To Try" in my fishing log.

Rebel wee r's are GREAT for shallow woody cover. Jusr dont make them in the colors I really like. The bandit footloose is another of my favorite's. As far as the cost factor the Bandits are the best, mostly 3.99 apieces and the 100,200 series comes through wood fairly well and just about any bait color you want. The 300 and the 400 series dont do real heavy wood as well unless you cut the bottom hook off of the leading treble (leaving 2 hooks on the treble. Lay the hook naturally on the belly so you know what hook to remove) and then they do real well then.
