FC knots
I know this has been brought up before but a search didn't yield much so I thought I would bring it up again. I am going to give fluoro another shot this year, particularly heavier fluoro, in the 14-20 lb range. I tie the palomar knot 95% of the time but don't want to use it with fluoro. I have been practicing the San Diego Jam and the Uni. I also tie the improved clinch some. I haven't really decided which I will settle on. What knots do you guys use with fluoro specifically.

I use the palomar knot 100% of the time on FC. From 8lb to 17lb. I did have some 20lb and that still worked out, just didn't like how stiff the line was. As far as I know, I have not had a fish break-off due to knot failure. Maybe it's just me, but I won't use another knot with FC.

I, too, use the Palomar knot 100% of the time on FC, and I use FC a majority of the time. I use anywhere from 6-12 lb InvisX, but most of the time it's 8 lb. I also don't believe I've ever broken off at the knot. Been using FC with Palomar for the past 3 years. I am very careful to lubricate the line well before and during the cinching of the knot. Maybe I shouldn't be, but I use a Palomar knot on every single thing I tie on, no matter what type of line I'm using.

Trust me the best knot for Fluoro is the Fish-N-Fool knot it is a great all around knot and it beat the Palomar in ahead to head show down on the TV show "Knot Wars" averaging over 2 lbs. stronger on all line types, (Mono, Fluoro and Braid) It's quick and simple to tie with a few mins. of practice and SUPER strong.
You can find a video on how to tie it on my website. Just Google Fish-N-Fool lures and go to the Fish-N-Fool knot page.

I have been a flourocarbon user for several years now and the biggest problem I had in the begining was knot failure, well that and line memory. I was tying the palomar knot and having a lot of breakoffs on applications that required a jarring hookset like jigs or flipping, but I didn't have any problems at all with the palomar knot when I used it for techniques like crankbaits that don't require a hard hookset. I tried several knots and settled on two knots. I use the San Diego Jam knot for everything except crankbaits, and for crankbaits I use the Eugene Bend knot. The reason I don't use the San Diego Jam knot for crankbaits is because I was worried that the 3 tag ends may effect the action of the crankbait (probably me worrying about nothing). Anyways, since I started using the San Diego Jam knot I have not had a single knot failure and it's a really easy knot to tie. I now use it for all lines not just flourocarbon.

I tie a modified version of the Uni with the line through the the hook eye twice and about 5 wraps around itself later in the knot. I actually use the same knot with the line wrapped 9 times around itself for braid.
Right before this, I use the Miller Knot which is similar to the improved clinch, which I've used for a couple years with few problems. The biggest thing with fluoro is if you feel the knot didn't tie right, retie it. Even if a knot that isn't quite right could pass on mono, it'll more than likely break or come lose with FC. BB

I use the palomar all the time with FC. I have never had an issue with it, so I figure why change what isn't broken (for me anyhow). IF the palomar ever does fail me, I will give something else a try, but until then I am all palomar.
Also, if you are looking for a very limp, and very thin diameter FC, try Sunline Sniper FC. It is a really great line, even without the KVD L&L. And with the KVD, it casts butter smooth. Abrasion resistance is also great. Ryan

The Palomar is definitely the knot I tie the best and have the most confidence in. It's been beaten in to my head that it isn't good with fluoro. Maybe I will continue to use it until I see reason not to. I do like the San Diego Jam a lot, I will keep practicing it too.

Palomar for me too. Not just with fluoro. However I like to use a double palomar on braid just for alittle extra insurance.

The other knot I have used with fc is the improved clinch knot for when it is more convenient to tie.

I use a palomar, although I've heard with FC it can cut into itself and weaken the line. I have not had issues with this and I think as long as you tie the knot right and wet it down when you tighten it you will be fine.

I do a 'double' San Diego Jam Knot, but unlike carolina, I don't think it was an easy knot to learn.
I don't find it hard if I have a flat surface to rest knot on while tying but to tie in open air, I struggled at first, until I tied it like a hundred times. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Fool, I'll check your knot and site. Again, I started FC fishing with Vanish, you all know who have tried Vanish (which in my opinion is garbage), you definitly get to practice knot tieing!

I checked out the Fish-N-Fool knot last night. It is essentially a double uni knot. It's easy to tie, I am adding this knot to my list of knots to play with.
