Default I had the funniest thing happen lastnight.

Lastnight Britney and I went night fishing at Stockton Lake which is about an hour north of us. Around 11:00 we were fishing down this bank and had all the lights off and would just turn on the running lights if we had a boat running in our area, I guess the late night was catching up with us because we were both being really quiet and not talking at all. Anyways I was fishing a Texas rigged 10" Powerworm down this pea gravel bank. I felt a "tap tap" and as I took the slack out of the line it felt heavy so I set the hook. I thought right off the bat that it felt odd but everytime I stopped reeling and leaned into the fish it felt like a fish was pulling back. Anyone who has ever got a bait caught up on old fishing line knows that it can feel like a fish but it usually has a certain feel about it and you can usually tell that it's just fishing line. Anyways as I continued to fight this fish it started feeling more like I was just pulling in some old line but I was still feeling it pull back. About the time I thought I maybe caught some line that was maybe broke off by a fish that was still hooked my Powerworm was at my rod tip and then I heard a loud splash next to the boat and then everything stopped. Then I was looking into the darkness on the bank trying to figure out what happened. About that time I heard a guys voice up on the bank telling his wife how his fish just got off. It turns out that this guy and his wife were sitting up there catfishing and I had caught his line. The "tap tap" I was feeling was his weight being drug across the bottom and then when I set the hook he thought he had a bite so he set the hook, which was what felt like a fish pulling back and then the big splash I heard at the side of the boat must have been his weight falling back into the water after his line popped loose. We had slipped in under the cover of darkness and with the lights being turned off he had no clue we were there. So I tried to be as quiet as I could when I was laughing but I had tears running down my face as I listened to that guy try to figure out what just happened. Then as we were about out of hearing distance I heard his wife say "I think there is a boat over there" Hahaha I have been night fishing my whole life and that is the first time anything like that has ever happened to me.

As soon as it was over I was laughing and told Britney that we had a "Little Rascals deal going on". She didn't know what I was talking about but anyone who rememers the scene where Buckwheat and Porky were fishing off the dock and caught each others line will see the humor in it.

Sounds like a funny story! Wish I could have been there to see it.

I love it! Never done that but one night I did hook and snatch an unattended dock rod out of it's holder. Just for devilment I impaled an old ball cap to the hook before resetting it for him. "Honey looky here I've done caught me a Ga Bulldog hat!"

That's funny. Over the years I've seen alot of funny things happen while night fishing. One of my favorite ones is when a bat smacked Adam in the side of his head. "oh hell that hurt"--I didn't feel a thing, but I got a headache from laughing cause that melon head got whacked.

One night a few years back a buddy and I were night fishing and I had a bat land on my leg and before I knew what was going on he had started climbing up my shorts. I fell to the floor kicking and screaming like a little girl and my buddy about fell out of the boat laughing at me.

Hahahaha, that's funny. It would have been really funny if he hadn't had his rod secured and you would have reeled it all the way to the boat.

Too many things can happen when night fishing or even hitting the water before first light.

A buddy and I planned a fishing trip and actually were together the night before with the wives. Too many drinks were had but the fishing was still the main event of the weekend. We get to the lake which is basically a flooded forest. There was a heavy fog on the water. Easing along using paddles to be as quiet as possible I got the boat a little too close to a tree. A bird flew out of a hole in the tree right past my buddie's head. He almost turned the boat over.

That happened to me on a party boat off Dana Point, CA. We were all deep jigging and when I retrieved my line, it felt kind of heavy. All of a sudden it tugged, so I set the hook. It pulled back and the fight was on. Unbeknownst to me, there was a guy on the other side of the boat in the middle of a pretty good fight himself. I bet the deckhands had themselves a pretty good laugh over that one.

The funny thing is, for some reason it would be emberassing to lose that fight to another guy wouldn't it?

Thanks for the stories all.
They are great!

I was out in the boat with a couple of younguns, new to the fishing thing but quickly falling hard for it.
They were jigging off the backside and I was casting off the other side. No idea how or why but I took a hard cast and when I released the whole pole went. I don't think it even hit water yet and I launched myself after it (straight out reaction that I have no idea where it came from) just missing it in the air. Slaped around in the water and luckily hit rod and retrieved it. Now the kids backs were to me so they had no idea what was going on until they heard a splash. Now these poor kids didn't really know me other than I was thier moms boss, loved to fish and liked to take kids with. 10 yr. old and 12 yr old.
Anyway I hand the youngest the pole and get back in the boat. The older boy asked his brother to grab a bag on the side of the boat while he was back by me. The smaller brother looks at me 'shyly' and says, " If HE drops it over the side I won't have to jump in after it will I. He'll have to right?"
I laughed so hard I almost fell back in.
