Default Any of you use........

Got me a handheld gps that I am getting to like REAL well. Anyone use one of the ram mounts for attcahing the gps to the boats dash???? Does it protect the Gps from shock when running hard. I have the Garmin Etex Legend and was wondering will it take some of the pounding from running hard while being in the mount. # weeks ago I put the Gps in my pocket and lost satelitte recption cause of this. Got my a@@ lost also. Was fishing the backwaters of Felsenthal and beleive me when you get off the beaten path you better know where you are going. One more question is it better to use in WAAS mode or standard GPS config when running hard????

Laser-I use a similar mount and have had no problem with stability or anything like that-these units are built pretty tough, so that mount ought to do a great job. One word of warning, though-if you have a depthfinder on the console check the GPS unit before you mount it-if they are too close together the depthfinder can mess up the signal getting to the GPS-fortunately I discovered that before I installed the mount.

As far as running I keep is in WAAS-the unit is sturdy enough to take it when running and you will still have the accuracy when you need it after you slow down.

You'll be fine useing WAAS mode. It lets you be more accurate when you mark way points, but it may eat your battery more.

Thanks guys for the heads up on the mount and where to mount it. Definately dont want to screw up again. Getting lost down in Felsenthal is NOT my idea of a good fishing day especially when there was NO SUN.

I also agree with a RAM mount....Rain will not hurt as long as its not out in the elements on a perm basis. Checkout here for the mount. This is nthe company I work for. You can find it here....
