Default Livewell question

Quick question...how do I keep the livewells empty for when I either haven't caught anything (which usually only lasts a couple of minutes), or I've got some friends onboard and we're out cruising for the fun of it? If there's 4 or 5 of us on the boat, I'd like to reduce the weight as much as possible, especially if we're skiing or tubing or whatever.

Sorry, forgot....it's a 1995 Sprint 207 Pro Tournament...

My livewell has a plug I insert and w/o it, the water just drains right out.

What kind of controls does it have? If it has a plug then I am sure you would have figured that one out on your own and not asked it here. So I am assuming that yours has a dial that you can flip from "Empty", "Auto", Or "Rec". At least that is pretty common livewells controls anyways. My Ranger had this type of controls and if it was set to Empty it would still let a little water in the livewells, though only maybe 1 inch or so and it would drain out once the boat was on plane. However if I turned it to Rec. before launching the boat then it would keep the livewell bone dry.

mine has the dial and there is a hole for the plug as well. it has 3 settings on the dial. empty, circulate an automatic. atutomaic stops it up. as well as let oyu airate it too.

Mine has the dial lever too with two positions, open and closed. I have never been able to keep them empty. I know the dials are connected to something else via a stiff wire. I figure it is a ball valve and if I had to guess the ball valve is not closing all the way. Ball valves work on a 90 degree turn and the valve allows for about 50 degrees of travel. If I figure it out completely I will let you know.
