Default advice on hooks?

So i went fishing in Maine with a guide we used a octopus hook with a white fluke and we got 86 small mouth i got a tournament in 2 weeks similar water clarity a little warmer but i was going to use this but there are a lot of large mouth which is what i am targeting what size would you recommend? i was think 4/0....thank you

At this point, you're probably the expert on this style of fishing, considering you just got done doing it. I wouldn't think you would need any larger hook for LMB than for SMB, assuming the bait is the same size. People use tiny drop shot hooks for LMB all the time with no problem.

X2. About the only problem I could see is if you will be fishing in heavy cover, so that the exposed point is an issue.

well honestly i only used it that one time and caught that many fish i have confidence in it. I will use a smaller hook thanks for the help!

Scott, was this rig you used just an octopus through the nose of the fluke?
