8"-6" Huddlestons(ROF 0/5/12), BBZ 1(6"-8" Floaters/SS), Lunker Punker(6") worked painfully slow, or deadsticked, practically until I fall asleep. Got some decent fish though.

Hi, I'm new to this site and I live in NE Kansas. Around where I live, deep diving crankbaits with smaller profiles are pretty good right now. Rebel Wee Rs and Manns 15+ are great.

When it get really cold, right up till ice up, I do my best with a suspending jerk bait. And a floating model works well to around cover. This one has been deadly for me.

The pic of the bait above is a jerkbait. The one shown is a suspending version. You jerk or crank it down and it suspends at that depth with maybe a slight rise. There are floating version that can be worked subsurface by cranking and jerking, but they will rise back to the surface when you pause the retrieve.

Suspending jerkbaits like LC Pointers and Excalibur Erractic shads have been working for me along with shakeyhead rigged finesse worms dragged very slowly. On warmer, sunny days a rattlebait fished as slowly as possible will work. It doesn't seem to catch many fish but the ones you catch will be nice.

So far this winter i have been using Storm Wildeye Swim Shad; which i have had great success with, jigs, and rattle traps. I havnt got the hang of using jigs, and rattle traps yet, and havnt had much success with them in the winter. Keithdog, i have been wanting to get lures like the one you posted above, but i dont know how to tell if the bait is suspending or not in the store. Does it say it on the package, or can you tell by the look of the lure, Kind of a novice question.

SO.. going out to a lake next time it gets above 50. i cant beleive there is a bass lake like this about 30 minutes away from me. talke to a guy that runs a tackle store on the lake and he showed me a bunch of pic of guys with 6 lb plus bass caught in the cold, then told me a story of him hooking a 8. So taking 4 poles, matched my curado with the dawia ballistic 7'3 (i beleive) MH for throwing jigs, go my volterus on a pinnacle with what do you think a bill lewis rattle or the kvd red eye,
i haven't opened the red eye but assumes it is the same. 3rd pole is spinning, my a small spinner bait or a wacky rig. 4th is for a shakey that will be dead sticked. i havnt had a chance to get any jerk baits, do i need to pick em up that bad. if thats not a good line, let me know.
thanx guys, sorry long winded

Most of the time the package will say suspending on it, but not always. You can always go on line and write down the exact make and model you want to buy that are suspending. To be honest though, the vast majority of jerk baits are suspending. Tacklewarehouse.com has a very good selection of jerkbaits you can check out.

Most definitely the Red Eye Shad. The shape of the body pumps out vibration you can feel in the rod. The shimmy on the fall is a remarkable way to trigger a strike too. I do like the Liv-N-Sound emitted from the Rat-L-Trap it's outstanding.
