Default I took the plunge-- veritas ??

like i needed it, do any of us but it was a good deal.... with all the coupons and points added up, i got a veristas for almost free it is a spinning MH, i was thinking somthing soley for tubes and fluke type softbaits. i have settled on a president and if i am using straight up Trilene xl 8, what model would you get. of the reel i mean. i love the red version of the reel, but i dont want somthing heavy that will throw off the balence, anyway what model of the president would you get.

I have that exact Rod and I matched it up with a Mitchell 300 (the new one) and I swear to you, it feels like I'm fishing with an "Air Rod" (Air Rod is like an Air Guitar hehe)

Whenever I have friends over and we're admiring my Tackle, lol, I always make it a point to show them that rod and reel combo because it feels that amazing.

Using 8# (lower limit of line size rating) the 30 size. If you move up in line size to 12# or 14# (mono) which would probably be better with the rods power rating, then the 35 size for additional line capacity. Great rod for wacky senko style baits also, in addition to those you mentioned. If you like the President XT (red) look at the Supreme (silver) reel at only an additional $10 will save you some weight due to the magnesium frame. They are what I use now after years of using the President.

Before you spool up that Mono, I would seriously consider putting 8# Diameter Braid on it and use a Fluorocarbon Leader. The strike detection is amazing when using this setup for Senkos or Dropshoting.

i have a vendetta set up for braid for my t rgging and my falcon loaded up with braid, \\ for wacky, THEN my vengence with 8lb floro for shakey/dropshotting, i have used about 7 differant floros, i found a no name that is descent, but to be honest i just want some normal cheap mono.. unless i am fishing a tournamnet. i hate fluro on spinning. i have tried and tried.

Until recently, like 3 weeks ago recent, I too had Fluorocarbon spooled up on my Drop-shot / Shakey-head rigs. No more, I can't begin to explain how awesome the Braid is with a Fluoro leader when Drop-shotting, Senko and Shakey-head fishing. That braid gives off the slightest hit, even when you have slack line you can still feel it.

I do have Fluorocarbon spooled up on my Crankbait rig, I like the fact that fluoro sinks better than the other lines and it helps me get my Cranks deeper.

I may change my shaky-drop setup if I'd use them more. And yea let me explain. My weightless set is a Okuma trio on falcon hd medium. Belive I have 15 fire line usually with a 2 foot fluro leader, I do tie a leader if I have time, at first no leader but slightest wind and the line goes crazy

thank guys but it is not for senkos or any finesse tech. for tubes or flukes/skinny dippers/grass hogs, i set it up with the 8lb Xl and love, for exceeds the vendetta you would think the vendetta is 2 miel price point instead of the next level
