help needed

hello, everyone.
I am in trinidad and got less than a month before I make it home. Hey, Rebel I haven't forgotten you. Ok this is my fix. I got a rod really like this rod paid about a hundred for it. but the butt of the rod is too short. I would like to lengthen it. Any suggestion? I live in the jacksonville florida area if you know of someone.
Next I am looking for a good topwater rod. any suggestion. ?

As to your question:

You could take it to someone who repairs rods and see if they could do it for you, but you might be able to do it yourself.

There are probably several ways to do this-I'm just thinking it through, and can think of two possibilities.

The first would be to remove the cork(assuming it is cork) and then get something the same diameter as the blank the length you want it and then find something that will fit inside it that will also fit inside the blank. Glue the extender to the blank, replace the cork-you will probably have to get a cork handle to replace the one you removed-glue it on and you should be good to go.

The second would be to cut off the handle of another rod-cork and all-and fit it to the handle securing it the same way-something that will fit inside both blanks to give it strength.

I don't know if either will work-never tried it-but in theory it makes sense to me.

These guys will probably lead you to someone who knows what to do.
If I HAD to do it, I'd find an old rod from which I could cut a section that would slide FIRMLY AT LEAST 5 inches into the back of your current blank but NOT too tightly (will cause splitting). At this point, BEFORE gluing it in (Gorilla Glue?), I'd remove it, add cork rings that would mate up to the existing cork OR leave the desired length of exposed blank, then CAREFULLY lathe-turn the cork to the desired diameter or taper.
Finally, I'd reinsert the new piece, with the glue, wipe off the excess thoroughly, and wait...
Consider what you will use for an end cap on the new piece and how to finish the raw end of the original grip.
I've got a bad feeling about this, but it's YOUR rod.
Please DO seek help and advice from the pros. If will, let them know my approach so I can find out how far off the mark I am .
