Default trolling motor mishaps

Ok here is my problem.Today i hit the rubberwheel thingy on my trailer loading it. I broke that plastic thing thats on my trolling motor mount. Its the plastic part thats on the mounted piece that the trolling motor pins go in. When i put it in the water. My question is can i still use my trolling motor with out it? I have a motor guide stealth 300 30LBS thrust. Here is a pic

You know what? I have that same part on my OMC. And I dont even know what its supposed to accomplish either. Yes, I'm sure you can use the motor without it. As long as its attatched solid to your bow and moves you around, you can use it. I would be interested in hearing what that part actually does.
