I added the premade tackle box thing to my boat, it holds the Plano boxes. They also sell jsut plain doors, with matching bottoms, you pretty much cut to fit, and with this combo, it's waterproof. It's expensive though!

I was thinking about extending my front deck so that it is big enough to hold rods over the winter. Or just get a bigger boat next year. I am curious since it doesn't look too difficult to get some square aluminum tubing, frame it up, then cut out aluminum sheeting and rivet it on. Aluminum prices are sky high right now though.
