Default Jerkbait Line

Will using braided lines kill the actionof my jerkbait? I am gonna be fishing a VT lake, loaded with milfoil or Hydrilla, 20 ft of water with 15 ft of grass. I was wondering if jerkbaits lose action on braid or If I shouldnt snap the rod as hard? Any tips? I will be throwing on spinnign gear...

In a word, nope. Braid will work fine.

It shouldnt alter action. Also if you would get hung up for some reason you have a good chance of getting it loose.

yes power you will have problems the key one is distance..in the ultra clear water of vt you want to be as far away from the boat as possible. try 12-14 pound mono -not floro- it will give you the float ya need and still yank them out of the grass...

No problems at all. I use it all the time. But as with any line you use with a jerkbait, attach a small split ring(prefered) or small crosslock snap to the eye, so as not to damper the subtle action these baits have.

I have noticed that with braided line for jerkbaits (and poppers) that you will have less side-to-side action (as if you wer using large diameter mono). Even snapping loops it won't "walk" as much as say you were using a smaller line or line w/ more stretch.

O? How about 10 lb mono, but brown in color? Will the fish see it in clearer waters?

I use 12 lb Stren flouro. This line is invisible and sinks. That's the primary objective of a jerkbait, to sink.
Granted, if it's a floating bait then I would go with mono.

I use low vis trilene for jerkbait rod, but this year have that red line on it, seems to work fine, although for some reason this wasn't one of the better jerkbait bites in the spring as compared to previous seasons, I caught more on the tube or craw than anything...
