Default Pedastal seat

Got a 14' johnboat with an aluminum bench seat in the rear. I would like to add a seat with a removable pedastal. The sides of the bench go all the way to the floor with only about 1/2" of space left. I can't get under there to hold a nut so that I can mount the base. Can I use toggle bolts if I put a 3/4" piece of plywood in there as a cushion? The aluminum is pretty heavy, but I worry that the bolts would tear loose. Anybody ever do this?

Dont recall seeing any toggle bolts that are actually heavy enough to do the job even with the 3/4 pl. I have when helping others do there boats and mine as well cut a small access panel and actually used another piecs of alumnium slightly larger than the pedestal base as backing, therefore adding strngth and also allowing you to use good ss bolts.

Can't you use bench seats clamps ? Then you can bolt your seat to the swivel, and the swivel to the clamps ... you can remove the whole thing easy enough.

Default Tried it.

tried the seat clamp. The manufacturer recommends that you don't use an extension with it. Darn near impossible to keep the clamps tight with the extension between the base and the seat.

Oh ok ... I didn't realize (even though I read it) that you wanted to use a pedestal. I did that years ago on a jon boat ... I think I used 9" pedestals attached to the bench seat clamp. Didn't work out to well.
