Default first 5 + lb. fish of the year

I got out fishing for a few hours today. It was Blue bird skies and a stif wind at about 15 to 25 mph. Water temps were from about 47 to a high of 51 deg.
I got 2 fish in the first 15 min. The first one was a nice toad. about 22" long and a hair over 5lb. Sorry i did a lousy job of taking this pix.

The next one was 18 1/2" and maybe 3 pounds.

I was thinking man this is going to be a killer day, well I fish for another hour and a half and only got 1 more dink fish.

I got all the fish off of a Natural Shad colored Sink-N-Fool. Because of the bright weather I fished a light bait. It's a grayish pearl bait with large black, small gold and hologram flake. You can see the bait in the fishes mouth. That color has been one of my better baits. This is the log I pulled the 5 lb. fish off of.

If ya look close you can see a turtle on the lower left of the log. This lake has a trillion turtles in it. On warm days they are everywhere. LOL
I hope to go out again this weekend as the weather here for March has been amazing. Most years we still have 2 ft of snow on the ground and frozen lakes this time of year. YAHOOOOOOOOOOOO I love catching Fishes again.

I got another whale today. it was 23" long and almost 6 1/2 lbs. This one I got on a Sink-N-Fool in a new color, watermelon red top and a chartruse pepper bottom. I got another one that went about 5 pounds also. I forgot my camera again but my fishing pard had a cell phone that takes pixs so I hope to post a picture in a few days.

Not sure where I heard it but read where the turtles are so are the bass. Same thing I heard about blackbirds.

that's interesting this lake (old saw mill log pond) has all kinds of those little red winged blackbirds. ??? ??? ???
It has lots of cattails and down trees in the water and on every log about 200 turtles.

My buddy still has not sent the pix of my big fish that he took on his cell phone
I had on my new Fish-N-Fool Lures T Shirt that I
wanted to show off too. LOL
I'll have to rattle his cage and get him to send it. It was a real nice one.

FNF,
Remind us, where are you fishing at? Can't be in the northern half of the country, still cold as all get out for us. Looks like we have a string of 40 degree days coming our way though.

bassinbob,
I heard that bass are always around redwing blackbirds because the blackbirds nest in the cattails, and when a baby blackbird falls out of the nest the bass is there to eat it up. I have never seen this but I have seen a bass it a baby duck, so I could believe a bass would want to make a meal out of a baby blackbird.

I'm fishing in North Idaho about 45 miles from the Canadian border. The weather has been unusaully warm this year but the water temps are still in the high 40's. You can catch big bass up north too.
If ya have the right baits.

Well seeing that turtle out at least is telling you its a little bit warmer than normal. On a warm sunny day, even if the water temps in the high 40s I've seen them get out and bask, I always figure that if a turtle that has been hibernating on the bottom of the lake notices that its a warm day, so will the bass.
