Pelahatchie bay has some big fish in it. I have not fished it in a while but i'd be chunkin a spinnerbait or a swimming jig around the pad stems. Also i'd fish the rip rap early with a spinnerbait or buzzbait. Just my .02

Why did they confine y'all to only the bay?

BTW, I think sometime this month they are changing the min. length from 15" to 12". I dont know if this is before or after yall's tourney but you might want to check on that.

The club is not real big. The tourney is just mainly the initial get together for the year and the meeting. It is a 4 hour lunker tournament for the largest bass over 12"/15" and the smallest bass over the 12"/15". I also heard about the bass slot changing, but I am not sure when.

I've seen reports of 8-9 pounders sometimes out of the bay. There's been several big ones caught off the rip-rap on the causeway that runs between the bay and the main lake. It gets real shallow real quick, I got my little boat almost stuck there a couple times. But that should be the place where the water warms up the quickest, since it's so shallow, plus add the rocks, and stained water.
When's the tourney? I live 10 minutes from the ramp there. I'm actually headed there Sunday afternoon, I'll see if I can scout it out a little for you.

Next Saturday. Thanks for the info fellas. Ya'll ought to look into it join the group if you have time. Since both of you live around Jackson. They have a lot of different dates to fish with the 4 different divisions, and the lakes range from the Delta to Ohkissa. So it's not to far out of your range. Holler at me if you want any info about the club. And I just found out the length restriction changes to 12" - 7 fish 2/16/09.

I'd like to join, but I never know when I'll be in town for a weekend, or if I'll be gone. My calendar is crazy.
Do you have a map of the reservoir? You might want to look at getting one. I know that Bass Pro, Academy, and the Walmart by my house all have them. They'll at least show you where the breaks and channels are.
Which reminds me...another place to try would be farther up the channel from the boat ramp. From the ramp right by the causeway, turn right and follow the channel for a little ways. You'll pass a couple small islands on your right, then the channel markers show you where the channel takes a sharp left turn. Just before this turn, there's a stump field on your right, just barely off the channel. Most of them are submerged, but you may see some just above the waterline. It's pretty shallow there, 6-7 feet maybe. Throwing a spinnerbait or crankbait through there might work.

Yeah a map is necessary if you dont know the lake. Pelahatchie bay probably has more big bass than anywhere on the lake and they like the pads with a little ditch or deeper water close by and a map will show you those little ditches.

I will see about getting a map. I need to find out who I am fishing with and how they plan to fish. My strong point is on bottom and picking apart a spot. It'll be tough to pitch and flip, if the boater is hauling ace with a crankbait. Thanks younggun.

Well, I tried the bay today, Bubba, but I won't be any help to you for the tourney. Skunked big time. After the big drop in temp over the past few days, plus all the rain to really muddy up the water, blue bird skies, and a steady 20 mph wind...the best I can say is that it was good to get out of the house, and leave it at that.

Hey man, I appreciate the effort. What did you throw today? I finally talked to my partner today about the trip and he is pretty efficient from what I hear on the bay. He works at the lair of the bait monkey (BPS). Sure would be sweet to get some of those big discounts, hahahahaha. Maybe if I show off my technical netting skills for his lunker, he will take my list of items wanted.

I tried a spinnerbait, crankbait, and a thunderstruck jig (gratuitous product placement ) around the stumps mainly on the north side of the bay. It was too rough for my little 14' boat in the main part of the bay by the rip-rap, which was where I was planning to go.
And if your buddy works at BPS, he should be able to get you a map.

Not so much chocolate as peanut butter. Some farmer was out there on his tractor plowing the back 40, and didn't even realize he was on 10 feet of water.
Saturday will definitely be rough. It was almost 80 yesterday, barely got to 50 today, low tomorrow night is 37.

I wish you luck, sir.

Hey Bubba, looks like not all the news is bad:

Warmer water in the old sloughs are beginning to produce some pre-spawn bass activity. Big largemouth are moving up on pre-spawn areas, like on the drops in Plummer's Slough and on the points off the creek channel.

Looks like I am not going to make it this year to fish the tourney. Had to bow out do to pay cuts and demotions at work(Might as well be honest). Got the phone call today, well at least I still have a job for the time being. Here we go. Thanks for all the info though. If you see a green GMC with a dominos sign in south MS, gimme a wave.

That's rough, Bubba. I'm really sorry to hear that. If you ever head up this way, drop me a line. I'll let you know for sure when Bama and I head to Calling Panther, maybe you'll be able to meet us there.

10-Fo. At least I am first in line to take my position back when things pick back up though. I am just happy to retain my job and insurance. My wife is due in late July. I still have my mustard seed fo hope and faith though.

6.7 lb was posted on the site. And it was caught on a jig. It didn't say what color, but I would bout bet a dollar it was black/blue. I want to hit Waller or Lake Columbia one day this week, maybe I can catch them on the ledges waiting to get back to the beds. Did you fish any this weekend?

6.7 ain't nothing to sneeze at, that's for sure.
No, I had family stuff all weekend, couldn't get away. This weekend looks a lot more open, though. I might hit Pelahatchie again Saturday, or maybe run up to Tommy's Landing and try there.
