Default I got a couple drop shot questions

1. Is spinning reels and light line the main rig

2. when hooking the worm do you hook thru the side and come out top of worm or all thr way thru side and hang

3. Would casting reels be ok with heavy line no more than 15 lbs test

I keep seeing all kinds of set ups from weedless hooks to split shot instead of drop shot weight and the then as far as the plastics go they go on an on.

1. Yes, baitcasting is okay though. Whatever you prefer.
2. I go thru the side and push the hook out the top.
3. Casting reels are fine. You can even push 15lbs test - if you're around grass or other cover.

Just be sure to use fluorocarbon line.

1. I use a small spinning reel (to cut down on weight) with a little bit of backing and filled with 10lb braid. Then I use 6-8lb fluoro leader. For dropshot leader, I prefer Seaguar. Right now I'm using Carbon Pro.

2. For rigging, here's the basic. In the pic, that's a 1/0 Gamakatsu Dropshot/Splitshot hook.

3. Baitcasting reel are fine like joolz said. If I'd use a BC, try to find a 7' M or ML rod. I'd use 10-12lb fluoro for main line, and maybe use the same 6-8lb for leader.

Just in case you were wondering, The spinning rod I use is 7'2" M. It's the Shimano Crucial Dropshot rod.

Checkout Kevin's Drop Shot Video. It's very informative to say the least.
