Follow-uppers

Well yesterday morning I went out to the lake. Water was semi-clear, and about 3-4 feet down. I could see schools of bass, about 5-15 per school, but they wouldn't hit anything. Now I know yall will probably will say sneak up on them or downsize your line, etc. but I did I was using 4 pound test mono, with a fluke, senko, t-rigged worm, weightless you name it I tried it. Ended up catching only one on a buzzbait in the end, go figure.

How deep were you fishing? A Dropshot usually works for me when I see those schools. However, if I were in your situation, I wouldn't sight fish for those bass, (especially at this time of year) but I would go to some kind of structure or point and deep crank. The bigger schools should be there, and the crankbait always gets them going. If not, something like C-Rig, football jig.

To me that water is very clear! Here in Iowa if the water's visibility is a foot that is clear. In situations like that I like to throw something small but very fast so they don't get that good of look at it, they just reacto to it and can't tell it isn't real. A buzzbait is an alright choice, I can't say its wrong, but in really clear water I like to throw something alittle quieter. But you should of kept throwing the buzzer. Play around to see what they wanted. A finesse buzz, a big buzz with a short skirt, which color, or if it had a clacker or not. Just fine tune your approach!

I have nothing offer except I can say been there caught nothing ! In the summer I see schools like that, Back in the day I have even chucked a nightcrawler at them and nothing, but we could occasional pick one up through the weed mat with a frog, get em figured out a give me the hint!!

I agree with the fast moving baits in a school. I have had luck with Rat-l's and suspension baits. I bring them in slowly and then bring them right through the school at a decent pace. You will often see them compete for it. I will also toss a 8-10 inch worm into the schools. I C-rig it with light weight and a 3 foot leader.

I fish some small lakes like that, and my bait of choice is a X-Rap, worked through the school VERY agressive... it usually gets them fired up, especially in the lower light hours.

Next time try a 1/4 stick and see if that gets them
