Default More new reels!

Why to the reel companies keep doing this to me!!

First it was the Abu winch and Skeet Reese, now this. And I still can't afford any of it.

I recently tried a Shimano Citica and I was very impressed, great reel for the price!

I have spent my entire life buying the newest in reels. I have owned some of the best in there day when they were made. I love good quality. But i have to say enough is a enough. I no longer will spend that kind of Dough. It is just becomming a joke. It's got now where you can afford a new deer riffle over a new reel. The reel companies have just gone to far.

lol, you're probably right lowrider. Right now I could afford the Zillion 50th, or the Abu Skeet Reece (just got paid for painting my Grandma's house, and doing some other jobs for her), but then that would be ALL I'd be able to buy. Then it would sit on the shelf waiting for a rod...

FnG, wouldn't that be nice...

I modestly admit......that when the "D" series 'Rados replaced the green 200s I loudly berated Shimano for creating an overweight reel to replace a legendary model. I began to keep my 200BSFs on a small altar with candles burning around them and a velvet painting of Roland Martin, dressed as St. Ralph, above them. Some here may recall my rants re the obesity of the new 'Rados.
It came as no surprise to me that others echoed my criticisms nor was I surprised by the very generous rebates Shimano recently offered in order to rid themselves of the fatsos. They'd made a serious error and they knew it.
Well, whattaya know? They've brought back the Mean Green in a truly improved form...something they should have done in the first place.
"Weight is your enemy!" is the mantra I've repeated here and in other forums for quite a while. Well, it seems the various reel makers finally agree. Even Quantum is putting their reel line on a crash diet. It's about time.
It's nice to be a prophet, even if it doesn't pay so well.

L6

PS: The 100D reels are OK...THEY didn't get fat.

Why are so many bass fishermen so caught up on reel weight. I'm not not calling people any names. But dam what a bunch of babies. I have spent the last 30 yrs using Abu 5600's & Heddon mark 5's. No time in the old day's was weight was an issue. Plus we were using reels all day with no complaint. Why now is this generation so reel weight conscience.

I was a big fan of the Chronarch reels. This past winter, I went to Cabela's to purchase an additional reel for a new rod. The original Chronarch left hand models were all sold out. So, I "settled" for a ChronarchMG. Since that time, I haven't looked back. I love the lighter reel (only 5.9 ounces). It pairs well with my light rods that I use for throwing weightless soft plastics. I have since purchased a few more MG reels.

Moose, so to answer your question . . . perhaps the new generation of anglers are fixated on lighter reels because the newer generation of rods are lighter.

moose,

i'll live and die by abu reels. still use a big old roundy every time i go fishin, but i have to admit that my VERY light weight revo premier (and even my sx-hs) are a joy to hold on to when it comes to arm/wrist fatigue. don't stress dude it's just the monkey doing his thing.

Wish2 and Low,

Some folks just don't get it. Don't even try to reach them.
We must all join hands and pray for our dear friend in the hope that he will soon come into the light.
Can I get an "Amen!" here?

It is not about the reel....it is more about the rod. Get the rod with the right action for the job and get a inexpensive reel to dish out the line. Diawa has some good reels for about fifty bucks and on sale at $30. Flugger has a fifty dollar reel that you can buy for $40 and so it goes on and on. A Toyota Corolla will get you to the same place as a Lexus 300, just not as cool to your friends.

I have had the expensive reels and the el-cheapos and have found that most any moderate priced ($ 40 to $80) reel will do anything that most of us want to do with a reel.

I just purchased an ABU Record for the surf. It feels good but only time will tell.

It will replace my old rocket. Handle shaft has stripped on it and I am having a lot of problems with corrosion

Those new reels are pretty and I might be tempted to spend a duece and a quarter if I still fished that style.
