Personally, I only have one or two spinnerbaits, and just can't get bass to hit them. I've tried different retrieval speeds, casting with/against current, etc. etc.

I guess it's just because I suck at fishing.

I personally agree with dampeoples on colors. There are color/blade combos for clear water and color/blade combos for stained and muddy water. You will catch more fish with using the right color and blades in the right situation.

if you guys are really confident on cloudy days with a little chop, just mix it up. On a clear sunny day, not a ton of chop just switch to a willow blade or two, and use a white head, with a clear skirt. In those conditions you want a slim almost non visible profile. and reel it FAST. you dont want the fish to see it. some of my best fish have been doing exactly what I mentioned above.

You got it there.....white head....silver head....the more natural looking the better. You get the willow blades flashing and the clear thinned out skirt to give a small profile.....I use a 7:1 reel and crank that sucker in along the top. A lot of guys don't think it works and its too fast....but it works.

yep spego, I have a 7:1 reel for JUST fast spinnerbait fishing. Some people call it a waste since its applications are not that often, but that one fish you catch in those conditions can be a great kicker

Oh yeah I hear you. That is why I bought that reel just for that. I like it for buzzbaits and chatterbait fishing too....but it works great for the clear water SB action.

BULL!!!

any time the temp is over 65 drop the hammer with a 7.1 reel..which in nc that would be about 8 months plus a year..

slow rolling is a BULLSH!T way to work a blade. if i have to slow down with a blade i might as well use a crankbait...

KVD gave an excellent beginner's tutorial on spinnerbaits on the Bass Pro Shops show this week. They rerun it on VS. several times a week, you may be able to catch it.

a good way to slowroll a spinnerbait but keep your normal retrieve while cranking is to get a heavier leaded spinnerbait with bigger blades..
You reel like you normally do at the desired speed, but the big blade and weight make it move much slower in the grass...this way it doesnt wear on ya that you're not covering enough water by fishing to slow...its alla mind game at times isnt it
