Not dumb at all, PB. Good question, in fact. I use the same rod for both, since the two techniques are so similar. A flipping/pitching rod is most often a 7'6' heavy action rod with a lot of backbone for setting the hook and horsing the bass out of heavy cover. The rod also has a retractible butt section, which means the rod slides down into the handle a foot or so-like a telescoping rod only it is only the bottom foot of the rod. The reason for the telescoping handle is a 6'6" rod will fit in the rod boxes of most bass boats, but a 7'6" will not.

i use a flipping stick just to flip 6.5 super heavy-fenwick hmg cut down- i use 30 #mono-hate braid.
for pitching 6.5 mh ultra fast tip and 12 # mono. for some reason i pitch farther more accuaratly with this set up. i have tried 7.5 and 7.0 foot rods. still can out pitch them on the 6.5 it mite be the line control.

ZOOKER,

I agree with you on pitchin' rod length. My pitchin rod is 6'3" and stiff as a broom handle with #50 Power Pro braid.
