Default broken rod

i got a new berkley lightning rod for christmas and i put 10 lb cajon red on it and as i barley pulled on it to check where the rod tip bent it snapped below the third eye. Are these rods crap or do you think it might of had a crack in it. i came from wal-mart and i was not pulling hard at all. I am gald i wasn't setting the hook on a monster only to have the rod break and snap my line. I am going to take it back to wally world and get a refund but need opions on if it was the rod itself that sucked or if you think it had a default like some idiot at the store was trying to bend it inhalf and cracked it then put it back.

i have a lightning rod in medium action and it works fine. this one was a 6'0 mh.

ifn ya got it from wally world, it was crqacked at the store buddy. take it back and they will replace it. it has happened to me a few times. the rods are great in my opion. i have 3 or 4. after all the kids and grown ups play with it there and after seeing what they do pitting them up (employees), it is a wondeer ANY rod is any good there. have to look at it REAL good before you buy it. test it there. then take it home.

I've had this happen to me doing the same thing. However it was a BPS rod. Took it back and they replaced it. I also did this with a St. Croix at Gander Mt. in the store. I took the two pieces to the clerk and ran!!

They should take it back with no issues.

I've never used them but know enough people who love them to know they aren't crap. You could have just had a bad one. I sort of had the same thing happen to me. I was at a loacal store that had a bit of fishing stuff. I picked up a cheap daiwa spinning rod, and grabbed the tip and barely bent the rod to test it, and SNAP! I broke right above the ferrul [sp?].

Mibasser, I done the same thing at Dick's Sporting Goods and took it to the counter and ask them if this was the kind of crap they sell like I knew what I talking about and then left in a hurry.

I had a rod break this year but only because I opened the convertible top on it.
