some cheap line I found for 1.99 for 1500 yards. I think it was made by south bend. I bought 8# test, and it broke on a fish that wieghed no more than 4#. Very crappy line. No tensile strength or knot strength.

Of the name brand lines, it would have to be Stren Original. I have just had it break to easily for my likeing.

spiderwire steath..got it from a free promo..that stuff just plain sucked..Same with Gorilla Braid(hey what do you expect for 4.99)..also had bad experiences with Trilene XL..lost more than one fish to that stuff breaking.
On the flipside,Silver Thread and PLine are probably the BEST line I've ever used.

Berkley Gorilla braid 20#, broke it 4 times on the hookset the 1st and only day I used it. Broke it once at the knot , the rest in the middle. Thats the reason it took me so long to try braided line again > I took it off the reel, put it back on the spool and sent it back to them. Never heard a thing from them.

the eagle claw line.-this will start a stampede-stren xl and heavy cover, suffix line, any thing made by berkley-except fire line, and spider wire all of this is crap.

stren heavy cover because of thickness-look at it it is 45 pound test line with a 10 pound sticker on the spool. stren xl and oringal both break way to easy.and twist on the reel bad-yes i know how to put line on a reel-.
by berkley i also ment gorilla braid.

spinner
if ya like silver thread try cajun lighting -the red line.
and izorline both handle a lot like p-line with less memory.

well I haven't tried too many lines but heres what I think about the ones I have:

Trilene XL: good line, cheap, low memory, a bit too much stretch and not quite as much abrasion resistance as I would like.

Trilene XT: good tough line, low stretch and low memory, one problem line diameter

Spiderwire stealth: its a good price, but the line is too slick for my liking, just doesn't feel right

Powerpro: This stuff is awesome, super smooth line that casts ell and has amazing strength. I've had the line break once, but it was my fault cause I left a knot in the line.

Rapala Tough line: This is some very good line with amazing abrasion resistance and low stretch. THe problems are too much memory, and hard to find. But the abrasion resistance on the line is icredible, you can pull bass out from under chewed up docks without getting the littlest nic on it.

Berkley Iron Silk. I lost fish, I lust lure, and it broke if you looked at it wrong. I sent it back to Berkley and they replaced it with Trilene, which I love. Too bad, too-I really liked the way it handled, but the breakage makes it unusable.

Anything that isn't Fireline I tried probably 10-15 different lines(all mono) before I found the Fireline. I also like the PowerPro braided line. I am more into heavy equipment, and HARD HOOKSETS, so mono just doesn't withstand it. I do use mono(Trilene XL, and Berkley) for specific applications, such as Cranks. I really don't have a preference, the only reason I buy those brands of mono is because they have them availble in Flourescent, which I use when Night fishing with the black lights, so it keeps me from having 3-4 different kinds of lines. As the saying goes, keep it simple.

Has anybody ever noticed that PureFishing has a corner on the fishing line market? They own spiderwire, berkley, and stren.

I know what abrasion is... I was asking if it's the same thing as the term that fishermen use called "memory"

I bought some remmington line at wal-mart. It twisted worse than any line I have ever bought. It was supposed to be 8lb. I bet it would have broke with a 1lb blue gill.

I have also had problems with Trilene XT.

I use Trilene XL I really like it. I have problems with line twist, but I just replace the line every month or so.

I also use iron silk for catfishing and I haven't had any problems with it. I don't catfish as much as I bass fish though.

abrasion resistance is the ability of a line to withstand getting cuts in the line for various reasons, like timber, rocks, or docks.
Memory means that the line will maintain its overall shape when its taken off the spool. For instance some lines are curlier than others when they are cast out, because the memory makes them maintain the shape they had when they were on the spool.

POWERBASS,

I guess the worst line I have ever used would have to be "Well, you tried the rest, are you ready for the best"? The "why" would have to be obvious!!!

2 different things. As described, abrasion resistance is the ability to resist knicks and cuts. Memory is the way mono takes on a set-it looks like a pig's tail spiraling off your reel. It has been my experience with mono that the more abrasion resistant the more memory you get.

I have tried many, many different types of lines on the market. Of course, I haven't tried them all, but of all the lines I have tried, Berkely big game has by far been the most reliable. I don't like braids, or supermono's, or fireline. They are to heavy and visible for my taste, and are very specific as to what variety of baits you can fish with them. I have one reel spooled up with power pro just for heavy cover. Other than that big game is my choice. I have fished this line for several years now and have not been dissapointed. I have caught 10lb bass to 25lb redfish on the same rod with the same line. Its just an all around good line. Good fishing.
