Default Planning a trip in spring, Santee S.C.

January is fast approaching and a buddy and I are taking the Marion/Moultrie lakes off our bucket list, never been there and this coming April looking to give it a try, any help would be greatly appreciated as time fly's as trips are booked for us as time off allows from our jobs.

Are you going to get a guide? And that could be a really good time, really depends on the weather as the year wears on. You might be a bit late for the spawn, but its really hard to say that for sure right now.

I have fished the lake a few times, and am no way a pro on the lake, but the one tournament I fished on it I caught a near 8 lber and there were 5 sacks over 30. Also, be very careful if you are bringing your boat. Trees everywhere, you probably already know this, but you can bet there is a good chance you bend the skeg a bit. Good news that is easy to fix, ripping the lower unit off isn't. Also, those lakes get huge waves quick if the wind picks up.

Feel free to shoot me a PM closer to when you come down. I doubt I'll be on the lake before then but one of my friends probably will fish it a couple times and if not, I know a kid from the area and he will at least tell me whether its spawn, pre-spawn, post, etc etc. So I won't be able to give you any great info, but at least maybe tell you the general thing going on with the lake.
