Crack on Rod Blank?
I got a SR 705R fiberglass rod by Lamiglas, and I love it except for one thing. There is a crack that seems to be on the plastic coating that coats the thread that holds the guides. It's above the second guide. When I flex it to make a cast, it makes a clicking noise. It's kind of scary because I'm afraid it will result in a broken rod. I don't think it's on the blank, but I don't know. Should I send it in? Will it be okay if I put some superglue on it? I don't want to wait an extra two weeks.
I'll leave the image full-sized so that you can see the crack. Here is a link : http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/11...u/102_0049.JPG Thanks |

Are you sure it's not on the epoxy? I'm guessing at this since all I saw was the infamous 'Red X'....

The epoxy is the coating thats put over the thread to make it stay put, correct? I think it is on the epoxy only, and I think I'm very very thankful if it is. I think it's a red x because you've got dial-up.

Jools,
That's just a crack in the epoxy. The worst thing that could happen is the line guide eventually coming off. If you want it fixed I would find a local guy that does rod repairs. He may only charge you $10-$15 to fix it.

That clicking noise maybe the eye trying to come out. I would get it fixed soon as possible. Should not be that bad. Good luck.

Why did you trade-off the Croix? Had you known you had a good rod, you'd have kept it and saved-up for another St. Croix. Preferably a St. Croix Premier Fiberglass Cranking Rod...

You probably could do it yourself. There are guides out there, and i know there was a good one floating around. I'll try to find it. But basically, take off the yee, sand around, epoxy coat, and use some thread to wrap the eye abck in and coat again. something like that. I'm sure a bit of searching will save you 10-15 dollars (which would be better used on some lures)

Thanks guys. It's nice to know I won't have to wait another two weeks. Buzz, I'm still selling the rod. It's just not right for me.

It is to my understanding that if you or anyone other than Lamiglas does any kind of repairs(other than change top guide) it does void the warranty. If for some reason it should break they will not replace it after someone other than them fixes it! I hate to be the bearer of bad news!

No, I'm not messing with it. I'm just going to leave it alone. The noise isn't very annoying when I'm casting on a boat with all of the other noises.

I looked at the picture at school where we have a high-speed connection. it does look like the epoxy is all.
Can you post a full-picture or give me a link to that rod? The color is funky! -Buzz |

Most glass rods are funky colored. I've seen from bright yellow to burnt red-orange.
