My PB so far this year...
What a tough bite today, went to a small lake I've never fished and was not prepared for what I saw. Crystal clear water with tons of hydrilla. Visibility was in the neighborhood of 20-30 feet maybe even more in some places. Once I saw the clarity of the water I knew it was going to be hard, but everything I'd read about the bass in this lake I knew it would be a worthwhile trip.
Got on the water about 7 or so and moved to the back side of the lake where all the brush was in the water and the trees were hanging over. First spot we arrived to I seen 2 bass just hanging out and having a good time. Figured I'd picked the right spot. Had a jig on there flipped it around them and nothing. I threw everything I had for about 4 hours (not just those 2 I was talking about, but working the coves, points and brush piles). Then I had this gut feeling of throwing a senko weightless was going to work. So I tied one made a cast...nothing! Threw it again and blam! Fish on....once I felt the weight of this thing I knew it was good sized. Biggest one I caught so far this year and I will be going back to that lake, lake record is 18lbs and some change. I caught another shortly after the one in the pic. He went for about 3lbs, this one I guess in the 5-6lb range. It had a belly, but you can't see it because of my hand. My little fishing buddy (my oldest daughter), God love her...didn't catch anything. I put her on the same set up as me, but regardless how many times I explained the technique to her she got bored really quick. I'll have to take to our other hole with some shiners so I can get her back on some fish. This lake definitely calls for dropshotting...enjoy! |

Congrats on a beautiful fish! Clear water can be very tough but it sounds like you did a good job.

Dang, 30 feet of visibility must been insane. 8 or 10 around here is super clear. With 2 being average during parts of the year and in certain places. Glad you caught some though. And since I failed to welcome you to the board yet, WELCOME (to the nut house).

That's a beautiful bass, great markings! I couldn't imagine fishing water that clear, we don't have any like that around here. Glad you figured something out and caught a few.

Thats a great looking bass! I'm sure your daughter will be getting her share soon. I thought the water around here was clear. But 30 foot, dang, thats something else!
