Thats what I do but you can reel fast so it makes a disturbence on the top of the water or you can hop it up and down.

Im just telling you this for your own good. This is a question that can be answered by yourself. Dont post a question like this. You have experiment with retrieves. Thats all im going to say but im sure tom will have an opinion lol.

My favorite two are to slow roll it-retrieve it back just fast enough to make the blades turn-and just a steady retrieve. However, you have to experiment to find out what the fish want. With fishing there isn't a "best" anything. There are opinions-ask 10 fishermen what is the "best" anything and you will get more than one answer and probably 10 different ones-and then there is what the fish want at any given time. Today they might want a chartreuse/black back shallow crankbait retrieved as fast as possible: today that is "best". Tomorrow they might want a wacky rigged green pumpkin stickbait with each end dipped in chartreuse dye-that will be "best" tomorrow.

i like to speed my blade up a tad after I hit something, or another tactic i favor is to flip into a tree and let it flutter in places most anglers will just stick to flipping plastics, then slow roll it, and make frequent casts (hic)(hic)..tom, ya have some catchin up to do if ya wanna hang with me tonight(hic)

fish the spinnerbait so the blades are just barley visable from the surface as you look down on it.....the bass sit just under that....Jimmy Houston said that this is what he does....I like to have a fast retrieve and then slow it down when it comes to a bush or point or anything......Spinnerbaiting is about speed. You are going to have to try different blade combos until you get the speed the bass want...

Good rule is Willows in clear water
Colorado and willow tandem in stained and
Single colorado in muddy or a tandem colorado.

Use Silver on sunny days and gold on cloudy days....

I love my spinnerbaits. They are my mainstay in shallow water. I use them anywhere I think my cranks would get fouled up. Most of the time I use a steady retrieve that keeps the blades moving. But to really excell with this bait you need to vary your retrieve according to the situation. Bump the spinner off of logs and stumps, work it through grass beds, and try speeding up the retrieve to work it just over the weedbeds and grass. They are dynamite in lilly pads that arn't too think and that are laying flat on the water. But I always retrieve my spinner parallel to any weedbeds first, working the outside edges before venturing inside. When working near docks and downfalls, work the shadded side. Try free falling along stumps and other objects, or a slow crawl accross the bottom in very early spring. Smaller spinnerbaits work better spring through mid summer. From late summer through fall I switch to my larger spinners. I think this has to do with the average size of baitfish prey durring the course of the year. Plus bass in the fall are feeding like mad and will take a larger bait. My favorite spinnerbait bar non is the Terminator T-1 tamdon Oklahoma baits in white with gold blades, tipped with a chartruese 3 inch twister tail style grub.

ANYWAY you want

Sometimes just pitching them up to and under docks, and letting them fall, letting the blades helicopter down, you can get fish. Just like everything else, it's the "PRESENTATION" that allows you to catch fish. The slightest little pause may work, or a constant yo-yoing back on the retrieve may work. Topwater Guy nailed it on the head. "IF", I repeat, "IF" you fish a spinnerbait enough it will catch fish in a lot of different ways But if you leave it in the tackle box/bag it won't catch a thing, and you will miss fish you should have caught . I do beleive they are more productive with a little color/stain/mud to the water.

Yes lizards, that last statement, I have found to be true, I have never caught a fish, or seen a fish caught on a spinnerbait, in crystal clear water.

I have caught plenty of fish on a white double willow with silver blades in crystal clear water. Its no different than fishing one in stained or muddy water. Success depends on where you put the blade and how you fish it. In my experience of fishing spinnerbaits anywhere and everywhere...its just as easy to catch fish in clear water on a blade as it is in stained water...just gotta know where to throw.

Oh, I know it can be done, and most of the people on this board could do it, I'm just not very experienced though, so I can't do it.

If you have a chance, watch KVD's video called "Spinnerbait tactics". This is a great video on how and when to use a spinnerbait.
