Don't agree with it being a waste of money, but, they are very expensive.

should be posted under the boat section...i have seen a couple guys fishing in them but i couldn't get anything out of them about the boat...they didn't speak english.(and they sure didn't know how to use oars..kept going in circles..lmao
they must be difficult to use as the couple i have seen at the ramps tied up the ramp for the better part of an hour trying to put that puzzle together.
and they look stupid..
stupid is as stupid does.....LMAO!

Cranky, trust me, you don't want one, I have priced them and they are very expensive, look at a basshunter if your in the market for something small and manageable. The basshunter runs about 500.00 depending on which model you go with.

You can pick those up used around here for under 100 bucks, (boat only, not the trolling motor/battery)
usefull if you have a way to transport them

i picked up one for 30 bucks that another steelworker had let set out and cracked its hull, got some fibroglass mesh/kit and fixed it for 10 bucks, you should start looking for 4sale signs in papers or internet for used stuff, 'a lot of people get gung ho with fishing and buy boats, only to find out a year or two later their interest drops, then the equipment sits for a few years unused , and thats about when you can pick up something dirt cheap.
thats my theory on used cars too , I wait till someone gets a new car, the old car sits unused for months, they will take anything for it

If I were going to buy a small boat, it'd be a full out jon boat or a bass hunter type like betursweetbass posted. Folding boats sound like a disaster just waiting to happen.

those port-a-boats are EXPENSIVE. $1500-$3000 if memory serves me correctly.

Get a kayak. Way more manuverable than your average basshunter style boat. Plus it will make you learn to concentrate on a few lures, leaving the whole tackle box at home...and that will actually make you a better fisherman.

Look around for a kayak, look at wilderness systems, very popular down here in Florida(saltwater). Or go with a canoe and get some outrigger floats for stability (you'll fall out before you'll tip the canoe with those).

I don't believe in the "leave everything else at home" theory. I think its silly to suggest that you should leave some tools behind. A person also has to learn how to "search out" a pattern and find what the fish want, and you can't really do that without a variety of lures. You don't drive nails without a hammer and you don't fish without options.

Kendammit, were talking about a kid here. All respect to cranky, but they tend to change lures too much and not have enough patience. Its probably much more important to learn patience and bass behavior by sticking with a few confidence lures as opposed to carrying the kitchen sink out there and constantly deciding that that other lure in the box might be the ticket when learning what the bass are doing is the real secret to predictable fishing success.

Cranky, Academy has some small Kayaks for less than 300$. Its also lighter than most any other boat. You dont have to worry about a trolling motor or battery charger (more expense), and I really do mean it when I say they are very quick and maneverable.

Its also important that a person, especially a young person, be successful when they do fish. I just believe that patience is developed not by having just one lure, but by understanding bass behavior and also weather conditions and things like that. When you know whats going on, you have more confidence in what you're fishing and will tend to stick with that lure while its working. If you're fishing just a jig all day, you're not gonna learn what bass are doing at different times of the day other than you know you're not catching them all day. You're also not gonna be able to find a pattern all the time because whatever it is that you're using isn't gonna allow you to fish everywhere and every way.
