What is a fluke?

I hear a lot about pork rind and pork trailers. What exactly is that? Real pork?

a zoom fluke is a soft jerk bait, use a 4/0 or 5/0 hook, put a 18 inch leader with a barrel swivel on it to keep line twist down..You cast it and let it sink for a few seconds, then twitch it, let it sit, then twitch it again.
It mimmicks a dying bait fish



A pork trailer is used on a jig, and other baits, to mimmick crawdads moving or a frog, and its made from real pigs hide, although they make the same item in plastics.
You'll find more on here use the fluke, and use plastics for trailers, although the pork is used in colder water, and also year round.

I never ever use a swivel on flukes(except when c-rigging). I believe they detract from the action of the bait. I also use either braid or fused line, which has less tendancy to have line twist anyway. I fish flukes more than anyone I've ever fished with. The key to fluke fishing is, a stiff rod, a low/no stretch line, and a eye crossing, boat rocking hookset. You can fish them slow or fast, depending on the bass's mood. I prefer faster if possible, but I also c-rig them and drop shot them. I use insert weights if I want more weight(a finishing nail will also work). I do on very rare occasions use a 1/16 oz bullet weight pegged, but that's rare. If there was only one bait I could fish for the rest of my life it would be a fluke. I also prefer shad type colors, with alewife being my most used.

We didn't really fish flukes unless there was grass or open tree unitl a guide told us a story: "In the spring when the fish are searchin for or on beds we use huge flukes we got at cabelas off the deep staging bluffs. Throw em out a 50' and let em sink down by side of the bluff, then slowly work em back," (shows a picture of a couple of 10lbders). Needless to say we are going to try it this spring!!
