Default Split shotting

I made it out ot the lake yesterday and decided to give split shotting a try. (pretty much a carolina rig with a split shot weight) I was throwing a 4" worm with a 2' leader. While this technique produced for me, I kept deep hooking the fish.
Any suggestions on how to avoid this. I tried line watching as well as holding the line, but it didn't really help.

Using a circle hook and nose hooking the bait may help.....just remember not to yank and just steadily crank..if you perceive a bite. I have a similar problem when fishing the speedworm tail-less and weightless in a slow fall and deadsticking presentation.......hard to feel most bites.

Try using a circle hook, as has been already said, if conditions permit. You can also try using braid, the sensitivity of braid will help you feel the bights, or feel them more clearly. Giving you quicker reaction time. Or just simply set the hook sooner if you're not already.

Oh, and try not using Yum, and Power Bait!
