Default 1/4 rooster tails

Rooster tails without a shadow of a doubt have to be my number one friend. I usually use a 1/4 oz brown or black(darker seems to work better) rooster tail,in one session i have caught a 3.5,a 3, and 6.5 on the same brown rooster tail. try it out right when the suns goin down. Also a salamander soaked in vodka works good for some reason.Got bored.
The Two Ton Bass catcher .On 8 pound test. I wish

i think the only thing my brother uses are rooster tails, and i can see his point, they will usually always catch fish. I've been with him and they have worked in rivers, lakes, or ponds. He's caught anywhere from 10lb catfish, to 8lb bass, rainbow trout, brim, and even some large crappie. When fish aren't bitin i always give a red rooster tail a couple casts, usually works out good.

I have had good luck with rooster tails also. I use the 1/4 oz. My best color is white. In late spring to early fall I keep it just under the water to were I can see the blade moving, in early spring, late fall I keep it down farther, and sometimes use a small split shot sinker. They catch everything from crappie, bluegill, smallmouth, largermouth, and even caught a huge grass carp on them.

I like the white rooster tails, and chartreuse as well. I've never used a black or brown one, but maybe I'll give that a try. I know the white ones work pretty well for crappie as well as largemouths, and the char will catch bass. I caught my biggest fish on a char. 1/4 oz rooster tail fishing in two feet of water near some moss. The fish just went crazy on it as soon as it saw it, hit it extremely hard.

Although I tend not to catch trophy fish with a rooster tail, I have to say it is my most versatile lure. I have caught bass, panfish, crappie, catfish, perch, walleye, etc. I typically use yellow (seems to work best for me).

Sometimes, I use it at the beginning of my fishing day to gauge how active the fish are. A lot of hits from various types of fishes means I can use a quicker and more aggressive presentation with other lures when bass fishing. No hits means keep the presentation slow. Just a rule of thumb for me.

If I have spent a day bass fishing and not caught much, I will take several casts with the rooster tail just to catch something. I hate going home having caught nothing.

Since it is so versatile and easy to use, the rooster tail is also a great beginner's lure especially for kids (and wives) who just want to catch anything. The fish usually hook themselves.

Haven't ever used them. Not a thing wrong with them, though-I'm guessing most of y'all are up north. I know they are popular up there, but don't get much play in the South.

Thumbs up

reb,

up here its a fav in the creek, my complaint is the gills and warmouths wont let it alone, I know bass and almost all pan fish hit it, but the small fry attack it.
White and also Yellow are hot up here for anglers , I've seen them used on trout too, we have several rivers that trout are in and also the pay lakes stock them in late winter / early spring, before it gets to warm

Ive Never Used One For Bass. I Was Just Wondering If Their Small Hooks Would Get Bent Up If A Big Smallmouth Smashed It. Just Curious. I See Ppl Say They Caught Their Biggest Though.
