Early spring fishin
FINALLY...WINTER..IS OVER..lol im horrible at winter fishin and managed to catch a few nice bass this winter. But now i need to worry about spring fishin. I know that jerkbaits is a good choice this time of the year but what else? and also-what kind of retrieves?

well seeing how your in North Carolina and im in Ohio, your water is warmer than ours up here... and right now im catching them on just about everything but my most productive lure is a medium diving crank ( 5-10) feet.
Craw colors are working best! Ryan

I'd say jigs, spinnerbaits, and cranks will do well. Honestly you can catch them on just about anything now. Friend of mine caught a few small ones on a buzzbait the other day with the water temps in the mid - upper 50's.

I've been fishing the Raleigh area. All of my catches over the last two weeks have been on suspending jerkbaits, tiki sticks, and spinners. I caught all of them near spawning areas in slightly deeper water. Also, I saw a guy catch a few on a jig. I've also caught some good sized crappies on the hard jerkbait.

well, my fish have been really shallow... i think your temp is higher than 50's (water) cuz lake erie is already having a surface temp of like 42 to 44 degrees and the ponds i fish are like 50-52 right now!

I did amazing on 2.5 inch tubes last year before the spawn. Even caught a 5lb 3oz bass(in NY). I also used 4inch when I wanted quality rather than quantity.

abu..
the water is pushing the 60 degree mark right now by weeks end more than likly it will be 65 or so... dig out the plastic's and crank in rod they are preparing to hit the spawning areas in force.beds will be located in the same areas as last year-if you located any last year..the males will be shallow 2-4 feet of water the fat girls will be sitting on the first drop in about 6-8 feet of water.. mount111 welcome to the site.. run a spinner bait -chartuses and white- and or a lipless bait-chrome black back- or a dt6 shad color. around the rip rap at the bridge that crosses the noth end of the lake..tequila sunrise or green pumkin worms t-rig should also work.. nc yankee was that you i seen last sat fishing them large ponds just off I-85? with the silver stang?? don't worry i won't tell where i see you.. zooker |

I was a little farther south. Friday, I'm fixin to fish a honey hole a couple of guys told me about. They say 7+lbers are common. I fished there twice this past winter with no luck. The lake has plenty of stumps and shallow areas prime for spawning bass.
