Default Setting the Hook

I'm new to fishing and i may sound stupid, but is there a proper way to set the hook? Could you give me some pointers?

thanks

Leen forward and then point your rod tip toward the fish and then with all your might pull straight back.

Even if it's a small bass taking bait as big as itself?

And I forgot to ask a question... How come people never use a split shot sinker?

proper?? the correct answer is ANY way it takes to drive the hook into the fish.. spinning rods are mostly straight up or to the side. best thing to do is watch your line set the hook in the oppiste direction the fish is moving. keep tenison on the fish never give them slack. let the drag screech an drag him in.. do not reel during the drag pulls if possible..

If you can tell that it is a small bass then pull a little easier.

take a toothpick and cram it in the bottom of your bullet sinker, then break the toothpick off . then just slide your weight down to the head of your worm.

As for the beads...you don't have to spend money on those expensive red glass ones. I buy my beads up at Wal-Mart in the arts and crafts section. Please, go ahead and laugh. There you can get ceramic, glass, or metal beads and a lot more of them for what you would've paid for one bag of like 10 red glass beads from the fishing section. Hope this helps and saves you some money on the way. Good luck.

Default Thanks

Thanks guys. I just didn't post a new thread because i'm used to fags in forums telling me not to waste more space and junk. I have so many questions to ask and i don't know where to start, so if it's okay with you guys, i'll make new threads... Unless of course no one has responded yet.

jooeleyn, ask away. You ask intelligent questions that are readable-quite a change from some of the youngsters that post here from time to time.

Julien.
Now I really don't think that was called for at all. There are other terms/adjectives, like idiots, rat turds, bug eyed ignoramus's, the list goes on, that would have sufficed. But you have been dealt with nicely since you've joined, why make silly comments like that? I was impressed with your posts till I read this one.

The St. Johns is a tough one to crack. The secret is finding a good creek, and keepin' it quiet....

Another way to "peg" your sinker is to take a small broken rubber band and tie a piece of line to it (about half way). Then thread the line through the hole in the weight. Once you pull it through then you clip off the access. No problems with broken or frayed lines.
