Mike, stop making assumptions and putting words in our mouths because I never said I didn't like pictures of Pluto.

Oh so that's what that was. I saw a bunch of people posting videos of it, but they were all "what the hell is that?" Cool.

WOW, I almost missed this!!!

I WANT IN!
COACH LET ME IN!
COME ON....I'VE BEEN PRACTICING!

Everyone knows I like to discuss things!

But HELL I was in first!

Thinks like Xrays, Food sterilization, water purification, even freeze dried foods.
Blood pressure monitors, heart monitors, those devices for elderly folk who live alone to get help fast all had their start with NASA.
Machine lubricants were greatly improved by NASA research.
Goretex is another.
Polarized Sunglasses.
Scratch-Resistant Sunglass Coating

And I don't think the Military helped or improved any of these.

But my favorite has got to be the interstate discussion.
I actually had to take this topic in high school debate class. (ya I'll admit it.....the school I went to didn't even have a shop class? )
But debate and speech was REQUIRED for EVERYONE!

Soooooooo......

Numerous folks swear Interstate highways in the United States must be designed so that one mile in every five is perfectly straight and flat. According to this whispered bit of facetious lore, if the U.S. ever comes under attack, those straight, flat stretches will be used as landing strips.

Belief in this crazy idea should fail anyone's logic test. It makes no sense to render inoperable the Interstate highway system during times of domestic crisis — moving troops and supplies on the ground would be too important an activity to curtail just to land planes. The U.S. is riddled with any number of small, private airfields that could be pressed into service if the need arose, with that need being dependent on some foreign power having first knocked out an almost uncountable number of major airports plus those airstrips on military bases, not to mention the American fleet of aircraft carriers. Folks who commit to believing this crazy notion of highways doubling by design as airstrips are letting the romance of a "cool fact" blind them to what their common sense should be blinking at them in bright neon letters.

Richard Weingroff, information liaison specialist for the Federal Highway Administration's Office of Infrastructure and the FHA's unofficial historian, says the closest any of this came to touching base with reality was in 1944, when Congress briefly considered the possibility of including funding for emergency landing strips in the Federal Highway-Aid Act (the law that authorized designation of a "National System of
Interstate Highways"). At no point was the idea kited of using highways or other roads to land planes on; the proposed landing strips would have been built alongside major highways, with the highways serving to handle ground transportation access to and from these strips. The proposal was quickly dropped, and no more was ever heard of it. (A few countries do use some of their roads as military air strips, however.)

Some references to the one-mile-in-five assertion claim it's part of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956. This piece of legislation committed the federal government to build what became the 42,800-mile Eisenhower Interstate Highway System, which makes it the logical item to cite concerning regulations about how the interstate highway system was to be laid out. The act did not, however, contain any "one-in-five" requirement, nor did it even suggest the use of stretches of the interstate system as emergency landing strips. The one-out-of-five rule was not part of any later legislation either.

So as many have come to know........I even test facts.

So my buddies and I didn't even believe there was a one in five deal and off we went.......
We drove from LaCrosse to Madison.
Watching the odometer for the 4mi. mark and then watched the straight aways to see if they lasted a mile.
THERE WAS OF BOTH!!!!
Sooooooo,
the following weekend we went to Minneapolis from LaCrosse running the same SCIENTIFIC test.
Again, same results.
This was all done in a 1961 Ford Falcon with a straight 6 cylinder and three on the tree transmission .....and thanks to NASA and the lubricants
THEY developed....we made it home both trips!

Bruce you got to PM me when fun is happening around here!!!

And for old time sake,

One day, while a woodcutter (NAMED BRUCE) was cutting a branch of a tree above a river, his axe fell into the river. When he cried out, the Lord appeared and asked, "Why are you crying?"

The woodcutter replied that his axe has fallen into the river, and he needed it to make his living. The Lord went down in the water and appeared with a golden axe. "Is this your axe?" the Lord asked.

The woodcutter replied, "No."

The Lord again went down and came up with a silver axe. "Is this your axe?"the Lord asked.

"No", the woodcutter replied.

The Lord went down again and came up with an iron axe. "Is this your axe?"the Lord asked.

"Yes", he replied.

The Lord was so pleased with the man's honesty that He gave him all three axes to keep, and the woodcutter went home happy. Later the woodcutter was walking with his wife along the riverbank, and his wife fell into the river.

When he cried out, the Lord appeared again and asked him, "Why are you crying?"

"Oh Lord, my wife has fallen into the river!" The Lord went down into the water and came up with Jennifer Lopez.

"Is this your wife?" the Lord asked.

"Yes," cried the woodcutter.

The Lord was furious. "You lied! That is an untruth!"

The woodcutter fell to his knees and cried, "Oh, forgive me, Lord. It is a misunderstanding. You see, if I had said 'no' to Jennifer Lopez, you would have come up with Catherine Zeta-Jones. Then if I also said 'no' to her, you would have come up with my wife. Had I then said 'yes,' you would have given me all three. Lord, I am a poor man, and am not able to take care of all three wives, and I love my wife such that I don't want her to share me with anyone, so THAT'S why I said yes to Jennifer Lopez."

The moral of this story is: Whenever a man lies, it is for a good and honorable reason, and for the benefit of others.. MOSTLY his lady!

So off to take my shot......and come day light I'll be fishing!
Just like the old days!

THANKS EVERYONE....IT'S GREAT TO SMILE WHEN I'M BANGING UP!

Guess I haven't forgot how to make REAL LONG POSTS either!

Ya I did.
BUT not because I over slept. (The fish did! )

And to make things worse/better,
there was a bald eagle acrosse the river sitting for at least 40 minutes.
Just sitting and watching me not catching anything. (actually got two smallies....that ACTUALLY were VERY SMALL ) and so I pulled out some binoculars to get a better look.
I kid you not.....it had a fluking grin on it's face.

So I continue fishing and about 15 mins. latter......out of the tree it comes and swoops down I swear like 50 feet from my kayak and grabs a striper out of the water.
And back up to the tree it went.
It sat and ate the fish (took like 15-20 mins.) and as soon as it was done.....it flew over the kayak and off it went.
Smart A** fluking BIRD!!!!!!!!

Now this is really early for eagles to be out around here and we have all flat land.
Thing was a full size adult and it was FLAT OUT AMAZING TO WATCH!

So I'm home and waiting for late afternoon/dusk (pretty hot around here) and back I go!
Oh I should mention.
Seeing I figured that dang bird was up a tree somewhere still watching and laughing at me......I took a QUARTER and skipped it across the river when I was pulling Kayak out.......showed that bird WHO'S BOSS!!!!!

Hey you folks have the very best day/weekend you possible can....PLEASE!
