With the weather heating up out this way, I started focusing on the shallow water up against the edges today. I love to toss into the downed tullies, but have had problems getting the the jigs and t-rigs to get through the few openings without getting hung up on the top so I decided to try something different. At least for me it was different.
I rigged up fat IKA's (hence the title) texexposed on Gami 5/0 EXG Monster hooks with no weight. The hook is heavy enough to help the bait sink. This set up allowed me to slide the bait on top of the downed tullies. Also, when it hung up while starting to fall a simple twitch freed it enough to fall to the bottom. I was also able to hop the bait from opening to oepning with out any snags like I have with jigs. The result yielded three bass in areas that I have given me a problem for the past year. Fat IKA's have always been one of my favorate plastics, but this gave me a whole new way to use them.

I got some of those in my bag. I haven't had much luck with them but then again, I haven't really devoted much time to them. Maybe I should give them another try.

Fat Ika's are a great bait. I love their weight and bulk. We just got a new bait in for Maximum Exposure from DHP Baits called the Medusa. We've featured it in Maximum Exposure and it is similar in nature to the Fat Ika, but has a nicer tail-end in my opinion. I haven't fished it yet, but I was impressed by the look and feel.
