Default 1 piece vs 2 peice

I was watching tv the other day and Babe winkelman was talking about the advantages of 1 pc rods vs 2 pc rods. He said that you lose alot of feel with 2 piece rods and i completely agree. I ne favorite rod is the bew st. croix i bout. 6' med-heavy action with the new abu garcia cardinal on it . I LOVE it! i can feel when a fish swims by. So , what kind of rods do u like?

When I first started fishing tournaments I bought a couple 6'6" Shimano 2-peice spinning rods for $28 (I didn't make a lot of money then). I still use one today (busted the other one a couple years ago). I've upgraded the quality in the reels that I've used over the years and I've purchased and used much better quality rods too. I've caught more fish on this one rod. I don't use it more than the other "better" rods but I seem to catch more and better fish on it. Can't explain it but it works. If you find something that works, stick with it, until you find something that works better.

I am a 1 piece convert. I used to throw 2 piece poles all the time, but I was sent a Fenwick 1 piece from North American Fishing Club for review... and I fell in love. I think they it's totally correct that you get more feel in a one piece rod. Although it may be because I normally owned cheap 2-piece rods, and my 1 piece rods, whether they be that Fenwick or all of my CrazyFish Rods that I throw now are mid-higher grade. Either way, I throw 1 piece now.

And my buddy Alan always fishes a 2 piece. He has to hide it in his car from his wife so he can sneak out fishing in the afternoon. Every time we go fishing together, he has at least one cast where the thing comes apart and the end goes flying out in the water, happened yesterday. It's become a running joke it happens so much.

Also, as a side note. I normally pound him if we fish largemouth on non moving water. But when it comes to running water, the smaller the stream the better he does. Weird.

Thatīs the only advantage I see in a 2 piece rod.

Did that this weekend.... It was pointless though as it came up in a later convo and she wouldnt care either way... Figured i would go out and see what I got for about 30 minutes on the way home.

I beleive that osne peice rods are better. But i dont like them becasuse when i go somewhere i dont like to stick my rod in the back where it can get crushed by something. So i take mine apart and keep it with me.

I only buy two piece rods simply because a drive a Jeep Wrangler and most of my fishing consists of hiking around wooded lakes and rivers. The compact size suits me better. I'm sure all else equal, a one piece is more sensitive.

i used to fish all 2 peices and caught fish on them. first 2 bass of my life i didnt feel a thing, i just kept reeling and i felt something heavy, so i just kept reeling. i have a st.croix avid now... around 200 bucks or so, but that was a reward. imo it has much better sensitivity than my 2 peice rods (with the 2 peice rods i couldnt feel bottom, now i just barely can), but thats probably because one is 200 bucks and the other is 200...

2 fish doesnt mean anything...if you get a rod that costs five bucks, i can see what your saying but i have a cheap 2 piece shimano rod and i feel everything...

i agree on sensitivity but the quality comment is general...just because its 2 piece doesnt mean its not good quality...

Jesus 200 buck for a rod! I can see a 200$ combo, but for a rod only, jeez. I bought a 40$ cabela rod, and I have used it for everything, I have brought in saltwater skate that weigh 25 lbs on a mh rod, that is 2 piece, and when I am throwing plastics with it, I can feel everything.

I can tell you from reading some of the posts on here that if you were to open up some rod lockers from many of the members here you would see some very large dollars laying in there. I normally carry a dozen rods rigged with various lines, lures, etc. (with my capricorny reels ) and before long you have some serious money invested. It is like any other hobby, if you want good stuff you have to pay.
