Shaky Head Line

Hey guys, i was wonderin what to use for line on the shaky head rig... i already have a Quantum Anion Spinning Reel, with a 6'0 Medium Light Action rod, and have the jigheads, and worms (Renegade 6" Curl Tail Worm with the tail ripped off makes a great shaky head worm, and the Strike King 3X Finesse Worm). I was just wondering what kind (Braid, Mono, or Flourocarbon) and weight of line do you use with the rig? Thanks

I'm dearly in love with Silver Thread AN40, if the 'silver' color doesn't float your boat, try the Excaliber.

I would choose line size depending on the cover you intend to use it in, open water - I'd go no lower than 6 or 8, in cover 10 or 12. I use 12 (AN40 has a small diameter) for all of it.

These are just my preferences, though, best thing to do is try a few different things, see which works better for you. For instance, I tried Fluorocarbon, and ended up hating it!

8 lb Yozuri Hybrid. Handles well with little stretch.

oh yeah and when do you use open hook versus texas rigged on the shaky head?

I T-rig it. I'm throwing it where there is a lot to get hung up on.

You use open hook when you're fishing around "open water". I'd consider rip-rap to be open water, as well as sandbeds. I'd texas rig the shakey head worms around grassbeds, or around other cabbage and laydowns.

I use 8 lb. XPS fluorocarbon alot, but I also like 8 lb. Gamma copolymer line. I never use mono or braid.

I use the shakey on 10lb stren braid. Not too much clear waters up this way. I haven't been able to tell a difference in amount of hits between flourocarbon or braid, so I'll stick w/ the braid.

I've caught fish with red line, green line, yellow line, and clear line. I really don't subscribe to the thought that your line color effects the bite. Bass are creatures of instinct... If something doesn't move right underwater, they're going to eat it.

10lb vanish.

Use exposed points when u can get away with it. If not, the spot remover or just a slider head works good.

I use 8lb BPS Extreme Flouro for shake heading.

I've found that flouro. can have alot of memory. Therefore I use mono or co-polimer. (suffix)
A Zoom straight tail green pumkin worm. 8 LB test.
You may have difficulty setting the hook on a bass larger than 2 lbs. "I" recommend at least a med. or a med heavy rod. Granted different companies rate there rod basically on the dimensions of other rods that "they" carry.
Thats just my personnal opinion.
