Default Flukes

Went fishing yesterday and boy was they hitting on the flukes. We miss more than we caught but anyway we brought home 4 LM Bass the biggest was 18 3/4 long and weighed 3 1/2 pounds. But the question is I always use a fluke on a texas rig my buddy hasn't seen that done before I landed three before he would try it. Then he fix his up like mine then he caught one 5 min before we left. Has anyone else used a fluke like that?
Thanks Earl

I always texas rig the flukes. A Case Salty Shad with a 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu hook is often the ticket for summer Largemouth.

Been using the fluke for years in place of the sluggo, and you can also try weighted hooks for flukes or insert a small finishing nail in the body to get dif. kinds of fall and jerk motions.
Also a 18 inch leader with a swivel helps prevent some line twist.

I would think the vast majority of Fluke fishing is done with a Texas rig.

If you ever have trouble hooking up using a Fluke you might want to consider using a stinger. What I do is take a treble hook (clip off one of the hooks so it won't hang up)... then add it to the regular hook ( I use a 1/0 off set straight shank) Then T-rig it. Let the bottom of the fluke lay between the two hooks of the treble. This also adds a little weight... Like JB, I also use an 18" leader with swivel to prevent line twist.

I have had great luck on flukes fishing them both weighted and weightless depending on the conditions.

I only fish them with two finishing nails, one in each side , I come in from the back. Lots of erractic action.

I have never tried weighting a fluke outside of using a heavier wire shanked hook than the thinner wire hook I normally go with.

I did see a guy skip docks with it rigged backwards so the bait would glide away from his retreive when he let it fall on slack line.In saying that I didn't see it to be a very effective technique for that day. Ivan

I have done that with some effective results. It has a weird motion when you real it in. You have more control of the action if you rig it "correctly". And if keep the line loose, you can make if fall in many different directions.

I too have never texas rigged or weighted a fluke, I have seen it done and I've got some weighted hooks but prefer to let it sink slow and then use a variety of rod moves to make it dart about..its fun if you have the patience.
The biggest thing I've noticed is that when we used to hit ponds only it was very easy to fluke fish. Running down the bank power fishing its sometimes tough to slow down enough to work a fluke, compared to the standard jerk bait..
I need to slow down and enjoy the show..something to work on next spring.

65% of my fish this year have been caught on a fluke , all I fish is a zoom super fluke in albino on a 4/0 EWG gammy. 15lb green trilene big game, a 6'6''mh baitcaster. I catch most fish workin the bait fast and within sight, if I wanna fish slower I'll switch baits to like a spinnerbait. Just my $0.02

Any of you try the double fluke rig? I did once and had trouble casting it so I put it away.

I catch most of my fish with a fluke and most of the time they attack it as I drag them across the surface. I like to keep them near the surface as well. I keep the rod tip elevated and I twitch the rod tip while reeling it in. The bass just attack the lure when I do this. When the topwater stops, I switch to a worm and fish deeper and slower.

I'm gonna try using a fluke as a trailer for my buzzbaits, it's worth a try.

Carolina rig a fluke using a 3 way swival. Then you can cast 2 baits at the same time.

Hi all.
I am new to the site and enjoying so far!

I have always fished weightless flukes. Had excellent results on the Conn. River with small mouths. Fished them slow in August. I will try weight next time in deeper water.

Thanks!

In the Northeast we are in a slow period with bass fishing as the weather is cold and no water has ice that is safe for ice fishing just yet.....I still find myself throwing spinners and soft platics in where there is enough room to cast. I try drop shots and find the deep holes. Our water "flips" up here in the fall.....the warm water heads to the bottom along with the bass. I did find a sunlit cove that was loaded with largemouth late in the day last weekend. It is frustrating, but we have a lslow period up here in the northeast until the ice sets in. Then we can jig for bass in the deep holes. Flukes are not a good choice, but soft plastic jigs work if you have the patience and good winter clothes! How is fising in 'bama in November?

Exactly how do you rig the double fluke? I would love to try that but the picture in your link is difficult to see how to properly set up the rig.
