Default 1st Cast Losers

Don't ya hate it when you tie a brand new lure on, hoping to get a big strike on the first cast, instead you end up getting it hung up on something and breaking the line? Lost a rapala shad rap deep diver today in this fashion. Even tried using the lure retriever with no sucess.

What I hate is when I think I tied a knot right and I make a cast and the lure goes flying and sinking into the drink. My eyes are getting bad and sometimes I screw up a knot. I always check after I tighten up the knot but I don't pull real hard. Guess I should start pulling it real hard. The line-lol.

I shouldnt tell this cause Im old enough to know better but oh well. Was fishing a tourney earlier this year and finally found a bunch of stacked fish. They where really hittin the brush hog very well and I got so excited I caught a 3lber unhooked the fish and tossed the rod in the drink. Thank god my partner was on the ball. He caught the line and retrieved the rod for me. Man you talkin bout laughing. Our sides where sore from laughing so much. The best thing was when we weighed in that fish took us 2lbs above the best bag and we took home $500. Wish we woulda had a video of it.

I've lost every heddon torpedo I've ever bought within about 3 days of buying them , and I've still managed to catch a lot on them.

Exactly why I dont or havent tried some of the crankbaits that cost $15 or more and some of the topwaters that are just as expensive if not more. Now if someone can chime in here and tell me what I am missing by not paying $18.95 for a crankbait or $16.95 for a topwater and I am missing out on a bunch of fish then I might purchase a few of them otherwise I am gonna keep fishing my standard lures that I have modified and keep right on catching bass.

I was fishing out of my one man pontoon boat about a month ago. I had just caught a 4lb. smallie. Threw the spinnerbait out again and my wife calls me on my cell phone. As I answer the phone, a fish slams my bait. Well, I'm not about to let a good fish get away so I yank on the rod and inadvertently drop my cell phone from the other hand. Now I have a nice 3lb. largemouth in the boat and a 200.00 dollar cell phone spinning to the bottom of the lake. That's twice this year. I'm learning, though. I told my wife not to call me when I'm fishing. We can't afford it. LOL

I've seen many a pliers go in the drink by anglers that are using them and set them to the side, while gazing at thier rod, only to find out later that the side was water LOL
They do have floating pliers out now tho...
I always try to check out the knot but have been guilty of loosing lures the same way mentioned above too ..
