Default 13th Place

My brother and I fished our 4th tourney of the season on the James River Saturday. We finished 13th out of 105 teams. Made a small check out of it but the killer is we lost 2 solid fish that would have put us in the top 5. One on a Spit'N Image about 2 1/2-3 lbs. and the other on a spinnerbait about 3 1/2-4 lbs. Man that sucked. We rarely have them get off like that but for some reason it happened that day. The river is fishing tough right now. Water temps got up to 93 degrees. We caught 3 keepers by 8:30am then struggled to get the last 2 by the end of the day. We ended up with 9.02 lbs. We'll take it but man it hurts bad to lose quality fish like that when the fishing is tough!

Congrats, that's a great showing anyway you slice it... I was in Gettysburg over the weekend and it was HOT... I'm sure it made for tough fishing. What were your three early fish caught on? where you fishing deep?

Brushhog,

First fish was on a Spit'N Image topwater popper. Second fish on a 4" Berkley Power worm. Third fish on a Zoom vibra speed craw. Fourth fish on a 4" Berkley Power worm and the last fish on a spinnerbait. All fish were in 4' or less of water.

BA,

How did you end up with your sponsorship from the auto dealer? And nice finish for that many boats.

Thanks Lizards! The sponsorship is for next season. We haven't talked much about it lately. We will put everything together this Fall or Winter. We plan to fish the Fishers of Men series again next season and the money we will get should cover all our expenses for that series. We won the VA-East division back in 04. The series we're fishing now is just about over. We have 1 more qualifying tournament (Sept. 8th) Then our Classic is September 22nd. We finished 6th in the Classic last year. All the tournamnets usually average 100+ teams and we're 19th in the points after 4 tournaments. We've had some bad luck this year but I guess that's respectable.

Thanks, kind of interesting that you caught your limit on 5 different presentations, I would guess that to be pretty unusual?

I guess it's what the pro's call "junk fishing". We threw the tackle box at them that day and ran up and down the river hitting every spot we knew. We never found a good concentration of fish so we just had to pick them off a bunch of small spots. We like to run about 55 miles to the Chicahominy River but the tide wasn't good for it that day. There we have some places we can sit on some fish but for the most part on our rivers we run-n-gun em.

B.A.
You know you'll go out one day and stick a mess of fish and not lose any and then wonder "WHY???". I missed a check two times on the James due to losing a fish at the boat. Guess I'm cursed down there. I'll fish club tournaments on the James and not lose one. Fish a money tournament and I'm guaranteed to have one shake at the boat.
Good thing that comes out of that is knowing that you were on good fish. Helps boost the confidence the next time.
